Maia vs. Shevchenko Preview

With UFC 254 in our rear-view mirror following Khabib Nurmagomedov’s 2nd-round submission win over Justin Gaethje and subsequent announcement of his retirement, it’s time to start looking ahead to the company’s next PPV event, UFC 255.

UFC 255 features co-main events. One of which is a match between flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo and challenger Alex Perez. The other co-main event takes place in the women’s 125-pound division as Valentina Shevchenko defends her title for the fourth time, this time against Jennifer Maia.

Maia vs. Shevchenko Betting Breakdown

On paper, Maia is a viable challenger for Shevchenko. She comes in at 18-6-1 in her career and submitted Joanne Calderwood in her last bout. But, oddsmakers aren’t giving her a shot to defeat the champion.

As of Sunday, Maia sits at a whopping +750 on the moneyline. Those odds imply just an 11.8% shot she comes out on top on November 21 at UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Meanwhile, Shevchenko finds herself as a massive favorite. At -1100, oddsmakers are giving her a 91.7% chance to remain champion.

Despite her short price, bettors aren’t backing away from supporting the champion. 86% of the moneyline wagers on this bout are on Shevchenko to win, while just 14% have been placed on the challenger Maia.
