Following their Thanksgiving win over Dallas Cowboys, Washington Football Team find themselves vying for favoritism in the betting markets to win the NFC East.

Washington’s odds of winning the division were cut following their dominant 41-16 victory yesterday to just +240. Put simply, these odds carry an implied probability of 29.41% that Ron Rivera’s team will win the NFC East.

A $10 bet placed on Washington now would net a profit of just $24 if they emerge on top at the end of the regular season, which shows how seriously the oddsmakers’ are taking Washington’s divisional chances right now.

On Thursday afternoon we saw an exciting Washington team, something the fans have been longing for. Terry McLaurin put in an incredible performance but it was rookie running back Antonio Gibson who stole the show, rushing for three touchdowns and putting the Dallas Cowboys to the sword.

It’s a far cry from the beginning of the season, when Washington were considered the least likely winner of the NFC East with their odds of +2400 implying just a 4% chance of success.

And sports bettors are jumping on the Washington bandwagon as well; since the game ended yesterday, 57.14% of bets placed on the NFC East winner market have backed them, making them more than twice as popular as any other team during that time frame.

Dallas let themselves down on Thanksgiving with some curious play calling, including that awful fake punt. So it looks like it's potentially a three-horse race, with Giants, and their ever-improving defense a potential outsider too. However, it's Washington that have really caught the imagination after this recent showing.

OddsChecker spokesperson Pete Watt: “Washington weren’t given much of a chance of topping the division in pre-season by sportsbooks, but it has almost seemed like a race to the bottom in the NFC East this year.”

“Despite having a 4-7 record, Ron Rivera’s men find themselves in with a great chance and bettors are clearly seeing good value in their odds.”

“One bookmaker is almost giving Washington the same odds as Philadelphia to win, and that match-up in Week 16 between the two is beginning to look like it could be a winner takes all in the division.”
