Who will start at QB for the San Francisco 49ers in week 1?

The 49ers were aggressive in moving up to get their guy. They traded up to #3 overall to select Trey Lance, and they likely won’t start him Week 1. At least, that’s what oddsmakers believe.

Will Jimmy Garoppolo start for the San Francisco 49ers in week 1?

Jimmy Garoppolo has been given -278 odds, or an implied 73.5% chance to be the 49ers Week 1 starter. Meanwhile, Lance is given +220 odds, or an implied 31.3% chance. Even Josh Rosen is being given a chance to compete at +3300, or an implied 2.9% to start Week 1. Don’t forget about Nate Sudfeld, who is being given +4000 odds, or an implied 2.4% chance to start Week 1.

Despite being the most raw QB taken in the first round, Lance is given better odds to start Week 1 then the quarterback considered the most NFL ready, outside of Trevor Lawrence, Mac Jones. Jones is given +300 odds to start Week 1. Justin Fields edges out Lance to be the most favored Week 1 starter outside the top 2 at +160.

Will Trey Lance start for the San Francisco 49ers?

Trey Lance is as raw as they come. He didn’t start many games in college and only got to play in one game this past season. That’s led to two mindsets. The first, Lance needs to start as early as possible to get more experience playing an games. The second, Lance is too raw to play and needs to learn for a while. The 49ers are a team with Super Bowl aspirations. If you’re betting take your chances with them leaning on the veteran.
