This Sunday the Seattle Seahawks D.K. Metcalf will race at the USA Track and Field Golden Games and Sitance Open in Walnut, California. Metcalf will be competing in the 100m sprint and one sportsbook has priced up the odds of him winning.
D.K. Metcalf 100m Odds
DraftKings Sportsbook have priced up the odds of D.K. Metcalf winning the 100m final at +1500, implying just a 6.3% that it happens.
D.K. Metcalf is a speedy player and did post a 4.33 second 40-yard dash when he was involved in the 2019 NFL combine. Not only that but he has clocked in a high speed of 22.64mph during an NFL game. He is aiming to qualify for the Olympic team but he's going to have to compete against professional sprinters and there has been a lot of skepticism.
Mike Rodgers, who competed for the USA at the 2016 Olympics, and will face Metcalf on Sunday has said that "football players don't have any clue."
He went on to qualify his comments by saying that NFL players won't have the correct mechanics and weight distribution that sprinters have learned during their careers.
Olympic legend Michael Johnson also teetd that "sprinters rightly feel disrespected. People don't understand their talent."
Will D.K. Metcalf run at the Olympics?
Whatever happens it looks set to be one of the most watched domestic track events in recent memory. So will D.K. Metcalf be able to reach the Olympic Games in Japan? If he was to record a time of 10.05 or better then he'd earn an invite to the US Olympic trials in Oregon next month.
At 20lbs heavier than prime Usain Bolt it's going to be a tough ask.
