4 minutesSuper Bowl Odds: 81.6% of bets placed on Tennessee Titans to win Super Bowl after Julio Jones trade
Bettors and oddsmakers agree, Julio Jones makes the Titans a bigger threat to win the Super Bowl. However, they don’t really agree on how big the effect is.
Prior to the Jones trade, oddsmakers gave the Titans +3500 odds, or an implied 2.8% chance to win the Super Bowl. That was tied for 14th in the NFL with the Los Angeles Chargers. After the trade, those odds jumped up to +3000, or an implied 3.2% chance to win it all. Not the biggest jump, but it did move them into a tie for 11th with the Denver Broncos.
Has the Julio Jones trade damaged the Falcons Super Bowl odds?
Meanwhile, the Falcons saw their odds double after the trade, ballooning from +5000 to +10000 or from a 2% chance to a 1% chance.
Bettors have a very different idea though. Over the last 24 hours, an astonishing 81.6% of bets have been placed on the Titans to win the Super Bowl, no other team in the NFL has seen more than 2.6% of bets over that span.
The Titans are much improved after the Julio Jones trade, and bettors certainly see that. However, oddsmakers don’t really think the deal makes that big of a difference. If the Super Bowl odds weren’t enough, the Titans are given +4000 odds or an implied 2.4% chance to finish with the NFL’s best record, that’s tied for 12th in NFL.
Even the Falcons odds of finishing with the worst record haven’t changed much at +5000 or an implied 2% chance, that’s 12th in the NFL and better than the Bears, Raiders, and Washington.
