Mac Jones Odds: 75% Of Bets To Win Offensive Rookie of the Year

Cam Newton has been cut, and now it’s Mac Jones time. The former Alabama QB has been lagging in Offensive Rookie of the Year odds for most of the offseason because he was behind Cam Newton. With no obstacles in front of him and a strong preseason behind him, his odds have shot through the roof.

Mac Jones for Offensive Rookie of the Year?

Jones is now oddsmakers’ second favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the year. He’s given +600 odds, or an implied 14.3% chance. Only Trevor Lawrence, +350, has better odds. Justin Fields and Trey Lance are tied for 3rd at +750. Jones division rival, Zach Wilson, sits last among the first-round quarterbacks at +800.

Bettors don’t see it as that close a race. Since Newton’s release, 75% of bets have been placed on Jones to win Offensive Rookie of the year. The second-best among the rookie quarterbacks is Field, who’s seen 6% of the bets. Zach Wilson is third at 5%, Lawrence 4th with 4%, and Lance is last with 3%.

Patriots Odds Update

Mac Jones starting is a boon for his OROY odds, but not for the Patriots odds. They were never among the favorites to win the Super Bowl or AFC, which hasn’t changed.

The Pats came into the day at +3700 to win the Super Bowl, which remained the same. The same is true of the Pats odds to win the AFC, as they’ve remained stagnant at +1800. However, those odds are volatile.

With each passing week, Jones performance will shake up those odds. A great game will make the Pats look like a team on the rise, and a bad one will make them look like a team about to bottom out. Such is life with a rookie quarterback.
