San Francisco 49ers (2-0-0 SU, 1-1-0 ATS)
Green Bay Packers (1-1-0 SU, 1-1-0 ATS)
Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers rebounded from a horrendous opening-week defeat to the New Orleans Saints on Monday night, beating division rivals the Detroit Lions 35-17.
The San Francisco 49ers extended their unbeaten start to 2-0 after defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 17-11 at Lincoln Financial Field. It marked their second straight win against an NFC North opponent after kick-starting 2021 with a 41-33 win over the Lions.
Doing the NFC North rounds for a third-straight week, the Niners are slight faves against the Packers. Lookahead lines had the Niners laying 2.5 points and the point total set to 45.5 points ahead of the weekend. The lines began moving as the dust settled on Week 2 on both the Niners and Packers emerged winners. Now the Niners are laying 3.5 points to the Packers while the total is up to 48.5 points.
San Francisco 49ers Odds & Overview
The San Francisco 49ers opened the season on the road against modest opponents, the Lions, and the Eagles. Winning on the road can be a tough assignment, no matter who the opponent is. So, head coach Kyle Shanahan has to be pleased with his side's performance and where the Niners are currently in the standings. The Niners are 2-0-0 SU and 1-1-0 ATS, a run of form that includes a 7-point winning margin on average.
The NFC West is one of the most competitive divisions in the league, which puts a heavy premium on winning. In the first week of the season, all four NFC West teams were winners. Following Week 2, only one team, the Seattle Seahawks, suffered a setback.
Returning home, however, the Niners will face their stiffest test in primetime, national football action. Around the league, raucous crowds are welcomed back to stadiums with full-capacity attendance, and under the lights, they've made their presence felt in a big way. Levi's Stadium won't disappoint, and the atmosphere promises to be electric in San Francisco's season home-opener.
Green Bay Packers Odds & Overview
After a forgettable Week 1, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers lit it up on primetime football. It was vintage Rodgers as he shredded the Jared Goff-inspired Detroit Lions in a lopsided victory at Lambeau Field.
The 2021 MVP winner silenced his critics by going 22-of-27 for 255 yards and four touchdowns, and running back Aaron Jones did the bulk of the heavy-lifting, running for 67 yards and a touchdown and catching six passes for 48 yards receiving and three touchdowns. For four touchdowns.
San Francisco had Green Bay's number until last year when the Packers finally clinched a win over the Niners, snapping a two-game losing streak. But the win comes with a caveat: the Niners were banged up last season, totally depleted by injury as they fell to the Packers 34-17. Moreover, the Niners were the most injury-stricken side in 2020, with Kyle Shanahan left scraping the bottom of the barrel in search of talent. So, it's impossible to put much stock into a win over Nick Mullens and a bunch of replacements.
The Packers lost to the Niners twice during the 2019 regular season and playoffs. The Niners decimated the Packers 37-8 and 37-20 at Levi Stadium, the latter of which was the NFC Championship game. In 2020, Rodgers and the Packers got one over the Niners, winning 34-17 at Levi Stadium.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Green Bay Packers Betting Predictions
The Packers have the most recent victory, and they're coming off a standout 2020 campaign that led to Aaron Rodgers winning the MVP award. But the fact remains that Matt LaFleur and his Packers have yet to beat Kyle Shanahan and a full-strength Niners side.
Accomplishing the feat this Sunday would go some way towards silencing the critics. Rodgers is averse to those whose criticism is unfounded. He bore the brunt of Green Bay's backlash after Week 1 in his usual zen-like manner but then returned the following week and took out his frustrations on the Lions in Week 2.
The Packers have heard it all about their recent shortcomings in this head-to-head matchup. Whether they can finally put paid on those, time will tell. But the Niners aren't going to be a cakewalk. Kyle Shanahan is a coaching mastermind, the defense is one of the best, and Jimmy Garoppolo has a lot to prove, all while rookie Trey Lance hovers over his shoulder, waiting patiently for his chance to steal the No.1 job.
All in all, this is a tough matchup to predict. The value sits equally on both sides of the coin for NFL picks. One thing that stands out, though, is the tight NFL odds on offer. These might suggest the closest contest between this pair in recent years. In which case, the Packers as the underdogs are in the value spot.
NFL Picks: Packers +3.5 (-110)
