When the season started, the Raiders weren’t on anybody’s radar. They didn’t have a single player on their team in the top-50 of MVP betting. Their best on the odds market was Derek Carr, who was given +7000 odds, twenty-second best. Well, three games have changed that quickly.
Carr is now given +2800 odds. That’s the 11th best in the NFL. To illustrate how huge a difference that is, at +7000, Carr was given a 1.4% chance to win MVP, and at +2800, he’s now given a 3.4% chance. So he’s more than doubled his chances, according to oddsmakers.
Bettors are also taking notice. Over the last seven days, 15.9% of bets have been placed on Carr, the third-most on the market. Only Matt Stafford and Kyler Murray have seen more bets over the last week.
The Raiders have come out to prove all of their critics wrong to start the year. They’ve seen their Super Bowl odds jump from +8000 to +4400, and Derek Carr is now top-11 on the MVP market. They couldn’t have drawn up a stronger start. The question now is if they can sustain it. If so, they could be the NFL’s biggest shock of the season.
