NFL Odds: Detroit Lions Given Better Chance To Go Winless Than the Rams Do To Win the Super Bowl in 2021
The Detroit Lions are now given a 10.5 percent chance of going winless in 2021.
The Detroit Lions are trying to avoid making the wrong kind of history. If they were to go winless in 2021, they’d become the first 0-17 team in NFL history and they’d become the first NFL team, at least 8 games played, to have multiple winless seasons. Yet, oddsmakers are increasingly sure of the likelihood.
After their loss on Sunday, the Lions are now given +850 odds to go winless, or an implied 10.5% chance. That’s a significant change from last week’s +1200 or 7.7%. To put that into perspective, the Lions now have better odds to go winless than the Rams have to win the Super Bowl. In fact, the Lions have better odds to go winless than any team in the NFL except the Bills, Bucs, and Chiefs have to win the Super Bowl.
Oddsmakers are also offering odds on who the Lions first win will be against. The overwhelming favorite is the Philadelphia Eagles. The odds that the Eagles will be the Lions first win are +180, or an implied 35.7% chance.
The Lions got routed at home against the Bengals. Now Dan Campbell is calling out Jared Goff, and it just feels like the team is falling apart. Yet, oddsmakers are holding out hope, even if it doesn’t seem like it.
The Lions actually have better odds to defeat the LA Rams than they do to go winless. They’re +700 to get their first win of the season against the Rams next week. Perhaps that’s the New York Jets effect, as they got their first win last year against the Rams.
