Taylor Heinicke and the Washington Football Team (WFT) are mired in a two-game skid, back-to-back homes losses to the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs.
The Packers and the Football Team entered the 2021 season as defending champions in their respective divisions, but their course is veering in opposite directions. Hence, books serve up NFL odds that are reflective of the contrasting fortunes of these NFC rivals.
The Packers are laying 7.5 points to the Football Team with most top-rated sportsbooks, but the NFL line has ticked up to 8 points at several shops already. The total is trending in the opposite direction, currently sitting on 48.5 points after opening on 49 points at the start of the week.

Ron Rivera’s side will be hard-pressed to defend its NFC East title this season after getting off to a disappointing 2-4 start. Although the WFT are second in the table, they’re three games behind the high-flying Dallas Cowboys, who are showing no sign of letting up right now.
It’s been an uphill battle since they lost Ryan Fitzpatrick in their season opener, and with the veteran not slated to return until the second half of the season, Washington’s struggles are likely to continue. Backup Taylor Heinicke is doing his best in replacement of Fitzpatrick, but it’s not enough to fulfill the big expectations that preceded Washington into 2021.
However, it’s not all down to Heinicke. Washington’s vaunted defense has taken a massive step backwards this season. Washington is second-worst in total yards allowed and absolutely bottom of the league against the pass and in points allowed.

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are in fine form, and they’re well and truly fired up after a pivotal NFC North victory over the Chicago Bears last week. Everything seems to be going the way of Matt LaFleur’s side, and consequently, confidence is appropriately high in their camp and across NFL betting markets.
The Packers lead the NFC North and they’re making a strong case for the No.1 seed in the NFC too. Rodgers is full of verve and swagger, the offense is clicking at all cylinders and the defense is holding its own.
Green Bay’s loss to the Saints in Week 1 is now a distant memory as the Packers improve to a 5-1 record to put some distance between themselves and that forgettable season opener. It’s as if it happened another lifetime ago.

One could say that Rivera’s side is the quintessential longshot bet in this matchup – even more so than the NFL odds would suggest. With WFT’s defense ranking at the bottom of the league against the pass and points allowed, Rodgers looks primed to tee-off in this game in a big way.
To be fair, the 7.5-point spread currently trading doesn’t feel big enough for the Packers. Seeing how Mahomes torched the defense last week, Rodgers is likely to do exactly the same. Thus, the Packers to cover as the home chalk is the choice bet.
