NFL Trade Rumors: 5 Teams That Need to Make a Deal Ahead of Next Week's Trade Deadline

Before long, the trade deadline will be approaching on Tuesday, November 2. The deadline isn’t necessarily as much of a frenzy as it is in the MLB, NBA, and NHL, but it’s still an opportunity for contenders to improve and teams that are down and out to sell off whatever they can for future capital.

The salary cap implications make trades difficult but there are at least four contenders who are in desperate need of some help if they want to put themselves over the top. We’ll look at four of those teams and then another seller to round out or five teams that need to make a deal.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs season is on the verge of going off the rails. They sit at 3-4 and are in third place in the AFC West division. This is a team that has gone to the AFC Championship game or further each of the last three seasons. The biggest issue is on the defensive side of the ball as they rank 27th in points allowed and 28th in yards allowed. They’ve allowed opponents to go over 30 or more points in for of their seven games and they’ve been particularly bad against the run allowing 902 yards on the ground and 10 touchdowns against. They need help, and preferably on the cheap as they have just under $3 million in cap space available.

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are another team that should be looking to buy. It’s likely Aaron Rodgers’ last season in Green Bay and they can’t afford to let the opportunity go without giving it one more real run. They are banged up at corner right now and do you really trust Kevin King, when healthy, as a CB2? Sure, they could add another WR and go all out on offense but if I’m Green Bay, I’d like to make life a little easier on the defensive side of the ball.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Let’s make it three teams in a row who need help on the defensive side of the ball. Tampa Bay’s run defense is solid but their secondary is in shambles with injuries. A perfect fit for them would be Marcus Maye of the New York Jets who is playing on the franchise tag and likely won’t receive an extension from the Jets in the offseason. Plus, Todd Bowles was the coach when Maye was drafted by the Jets in 2017.

New Orleans Saints

Brandin Cooks! It makes too much sense plus he just sent out a cryptic tweet after the Saints traded for Mark Ingram. If they could bring Ingram back why not bring back Cooks as well. If this team wants any shot of competing they need to add more weapons on offense. Their defense is pristine but offensively, they leave a lot to be desired. Man, that sounds weird to say about the Saints.

Houston Texans

Sell! Sell everything you got. The Texans won in Week 1 over the Jacksonville Jaguars and feel like they’re going to follow the 2020 version of the Jags and lose out the rest of the way. The Texans have had just one first-round draft pick over the past four drafts and were without a second in last year’s draft class. For a rebuilding team, they need as many picks as they can get. Sell Brandin Cooks, DeShaun Watson (if you can), one of your other million running backs, literally anyone you can.
