Dallas Cowboys vs. Atlanta Falcons NFL Week 10 Betting Odds, Picks, and Preview

After last week’s humiliation, the Dallas Cowboys will be keen to save face and earn back some of the respect they’d lost from their peers. Encouragingly, oddsmakers appear confident in the Cowboys’ bounce-back ability, tipping this game on a 9-point line in their corner. And yet, the public isn’t down with this market outlook at all. Early consensus betting reports show the public is going against the oddsmakers and backing the Atlanta Falcons instead, who improved to a 4-4 record after winning three of their last four games.

Atlanta Falcons Betting Preview

Matt Ryan and the Falcons nearly shot themselves in the foot (again) in last Sunday’s 27-25 victory over the Saints. After they went up 24-6 in the fourth quarter, the wheels came spectacularly undone, and the Falcons only narrowly avoided the defeat.

The Saints launched an improbable rally in the final ten minutes of the game. Trevor Siemian orchestrated three touchdowns to lift the Saints to the 25-24 lead. The crowd in the Superdome erupted in a raucous frenzy at that point – until Matty Ice silenced them. The veteran signal-caller connected with Cordarrelle Patterson on an insane 64-yard pass to set up Younghoe Koo for a 29-yard game-winning field goal.

It’s safe to say the Falcons were fortunate it all worked out. Had Ryan failed to move the chains, or Koo missed the field goal, the Falcons would be looking at another missed opportunity. Heck, had the Saints converted on one or both of their two-point conversion attempts in the fourth quarter, things might have turned out differently, too.

Dallas Cowboys Betting Preview

The Cowboys were dealt a bit of a comeuppance in a 30-16 loss to the Broncos last Sunday. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones didn't even bother excusing his side's poor performance. “Overconfident” and “flat” were some of the words he used to describe his team in a recent radio interview.

The 14-point margin of defeat represents Dallas’ worst loss this season, but it could have been much worse because the Cowboys were held scoreless for the first 55 minutes and 51 seconds. They avoided the bagel by scoring a couple of late scores in the game.

Perhaps, the Broncos took pity on Dak Prescott and Company by taking the foot off the gas in the last four minutes. After all, they’d made their statement by then. A couple of garbage touchdowns weren’t going to change a thing or take away from what was a comprehensive beatdown by a team nobody saw coming.

Lookahead NFL lines projected the Cowboys at -9.5 ahead of Week 9, but following Dallas’ inexplicable loss to Denver, the line reopened on Cowboys -9. The line is all over the place, with some shops still showing -9 and others going up to -9.5 or -10. Depending on how you’re slicing your bets, shopping around for the best lines and odds will make a difference.

By contrast, the total has seen one-way movement from a lookahead line of 51 points up to 54 points where it reopened at the start of the week. And since open doors, that number has steadily climbed up to 55 points at several shops.

Consensus betting reports show that the public is backing the Falcons as the road underdogs against the spread. At the same time, the over is registering as the choice bet, which explains the climbing number.

Cowboys vs. Falcons Betting Predictions and Picks

One bad defeat for America’s favorite team is all it took for the public to abandon ship. Talk about fickle. Then again, the loss left an indelible impression – not so much the blowout but for how the Cowboys lost. The body language was terrible. Even Jones alluded to during his chat on 105.3 The Fan radio, saying "I don't think any of us thought we'd come out of there without a victory Sunday."

The Cowboys are great frontrunners, and when things are going their way, they’re nigh unstoppable. It’s quite the opposite when things don’t go their way, and that lack of fight is something that unfortunately takes the shine off of their NFL odds.

The Falcons aren’t exactly world-beaters, and their highs and lows make them one of the most frustrating teams to bet on in the NFL. Then again, those ups and downs might be due to the growing pains of getting acclimatized with the new coaching staff. Now, with eight games under their belts and a modest 4-4 record, which includes three wins in their last four games, one could argue that the Falcons are on the rise right now.

Something the Falcons have demonstrated is a fightback mentality. That intangible quality resonates with fans of the gridiron, and it probably earned Atlanta some new fans. That very same fighting spirit also underscores their NFL odds as the road underdogs in this game. So, if you can find the Falcons at +10, it’s worth grabbing the points now before the line goes south again.

Cowboys vs. Falcons Betting Picks: Falcons +10
