New York Giants Preview
The Giants enter this Monday Night Football matchup on the heels of their bye week. After starting off the season 0-3, New York has played .500 ball over their last six games. While there are clearly some issues in the front office, head coach Joe Judge has his team improving on the field for the second straight season. The Giants were in contention to win the NFC East Division on the final Sunday of the season a year ago after a poor start. The three games directly before last week’s bye were particularly encouraging for Giants fans. New York won at home over the Carolina Panthers and Las Vegas Raiders and hung tough with the Kansas City Chiefs as big NFL betting underdogs on the road. Defensively, the Giants held all three of those opponents to 20 points or less.
In reality, the win over the Raiders that preceded the Week 10 bye was more of a feather in the cap of the defense than anything. The Giants came up with multiple stops in the red zone and won by nine despite being outgained by over 150 yards. It was a quiet game for Daniel Jones, but the Giants truly have a capable quarterback under center. Running back Devontae Booker was the primary weapon against Las Vegas. Drawing another spot start in place of the injured Saquon Barkley, Booker ran for 99 yards and added 23 more on a trio of receptions. After practicing in a limited capacity all week, Barkley is once again questionable to play in Monday’s NFL betting matchup.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Preview
The Buccaneers come into Monday’s contest with far less momentum on their side. Despite having a far better record and realistic aspirations of repeating as Super Bowl champs, Tampa Bay sandwiched a Week 9 bye in between two disappointing losses. Thus, it has been nearly a full month since the Bucs last won a game. It seems safe to say that one Tom Brady can’t be too thrilled with last week’s upset loss to the Washington Football Team. In what has been a tremendous statistical season for Brady, he was held to just 220 yards passing and tossed a pair of interceptions. Being without two key pass-catchers in Rob Gronkowski and Antonio Brown over the past several weeks has not helped. Brown is officially listed as questionable following a week of appearing in the headlines for non-injury-related matters that could impact his status going forward.
While the Buccaneers’ defensive strength dating back to last year has been stopping the run, it was a rather lackluster effort against Washington last week. They allowed Antonio Gibson to put up 64 yards and two scores on the ground. Still, Tampa ranks fourth in adjusted defensive efficiency against the run. No matter who is the lead back for the Giants, things don’t figure to come easily. While this certainly feels like a bounce-back game for the defending champs, the fact that the Buccaneers have consistently failed to meet NFL betting expectations this season is noteworthy.

The spread for this MNF matchup has actually moved a full two points in favor of the road underdog Giants. Oddsmakers initially set the line in favor of the Buccaneers at -12.5. New York has garnered 51% of all spread bets made on this contest, but it’s clear that some of those have come courtesy of sharp players.
The total has also declined after opening at 51. Improved play by the Giants defense in recent weeks certainly plays a part in that move. The two teams combined for 48 total points in last year’s head-to-head meeting.
Giants vs. Buccaneers Betting Picks and Prediction
While the slight majority of public bets siding with the Giants as an underdog is slightly concerning, New York actually feels like the better side here. If there’s any team that has been Tom Brady’s kryptonite over the years, it would be the Giants. The fact that the defense has been playing a lot better in recent weeks is encouraging. In addition, the Giants have not been awful ATS coming off of a bye week in recent seasons. They have also performed well as an NFL betting underdog on the road.
The biggest cause for concern in taking New York ATS is whether or not the defensive secondary can hold up against the Bucs’ endless arsenal of receivers. Well, the Giants have actually been a much better pass defense than they have been against the run this season. Look for the Bucs’ defense to aim to make a statement as well following last week’s disappointing effort. A lower-scoring affair gives the underdog Giants a better chance to stay within the number as well.
Giants vs Buccaneers NFL Betting Picks: Giants +10.5 (-106) and Under 49.5 (-110)
