The Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens are set to reprise hostilities in Week 12’s installment of Sunday Night Football. Bookmakers have cornered this game in Baltimore’s camp, opening the market with the Ravens tipped at 3.5 at home. Browns Betting Preview

The Browns enter this Sunday Night Football matchup following a 13-10 win over the Detroit Lions. The victory wasn’t as routine as the oddsmakers had it – the Browns closed as the 13.5 point home chalk, but they not only failed to cover the point spread they also failed to put up that many points. Talk about overestimating Cleveland’s odds!

Coach Kevin Stefanski’s side looked awful against the league’s worst team. Baker Mayfield, who was coming off a horrendous performance in Cleveland’s embarrassing 45-7 loss to the New England Patriots in Week 10, struggled once again. He had trouble with his accuracy and went 15-of-29 for 176 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions.

Nick Chubb, returning from a mandated absence due to Covid, proved to be the deciding factor. His performance masked Mayfield’s and the offense’s struggles on the offensive side of the ball. The star running back and indisputable heart of the offense rushed for 130 yards and caught two passes for 14 yards and a touchdown.

Ravens Betting Preview

The Ravens eked out a 16-13 win over the embattled Chicago Bears last Sunday to improve to a division-leading 7-3 record. However, the low-scoring affair left much to be desired even though coach Jim Harbaugh’s side ultimately covered as the small 1-point favorites in the Windy City.

Lamar Jackson was ruled out before the game with a mystery illness, paving the way for the untried and untested backup Tyler Huntley to make his NFL debut. The undrafted backup was thrown into an impossible situation, and while he didn’t dazzle, he showed poise and character that is symbolic of the Ravens. Indeed, he proved clutch on the last drive as he marched the Ravens offense and set up the go-ahead score.

Baltimore’s defense has been a problem all season long, and it proved to be the weakest link against the Bears. In particular, the secondary struggled to protect Huntley in the pocket as he was under constant pressure and sacked multiple times.

Books opened the Browns vs Ravens matchup with Baltimore tipped as the 4-point home chalk, and the line has moved between 3.5 and 4 points since open doors with the betting split between these two AFC North rivals relatively evenly. The game total opened at 48 points, but it dropped down to 46.5 points soon after.

Browns vs. Ravens Betting Predictions and Picks

Baker Mayfield is literally limping into this weekend’s contest. Over and above his many ailments, it seems he has a groin issue as well. Obviously, the fourth-year quarterback wants to be there for his team, but it gives rise to questions about his effectiveness and whether he gives the Browns the best chance in a pivotal game that could decide Cleveland’s 2021 campaign.

The schedule isn’t easing up with the remainder of the schedule pitting the Browns against teams with winning records. And with Cleveland propping up the AFC North, this is a must-win game if the Browns hope to make the playoffs for the second year in a row.

Lamar Jackson is set to return to the fold this week, and he unquestionably gives the Ravens their best shot. The offense is electric when he’s the pivot. The Ravens’ star has shown impressive improvement in his passing game and he’s been clutch in a number of games, rallying the Ravens to come-from-behind victories more frequently than he ever has in his fledgling career.

On paper, this is a matchup of teams that have many similarities – one of which is the strength of their run game. The Browns, however, appear to have the better defense this season, which is probably one of the reasons why bettors are high on Cleveland’s odds for this game.

Games aren’t played on paper, but rather on the field. Jackson is the X-factor in this matchup, and after missing last week’s game against Chicago, he’ll be chomping at the bit to get going. Moreover, he’ll likely be keen to atone for his poor performance against Miami a couple of weeks ago too. An inspired and fired-up Jackson could be a problem for the Browns defense because – let’s face it – they haven’t faced a quarterback with his skill set this season or a team quite as highly fancied as the Ravens are in the broad spectrum. Cleveland has only beaten the Texans, Bears, Vikings, Broncos, and Lions – not exactly the who’s who of the NFL this season.

Ravens vs Browns NFL Picks: Baltimore Ravens -3.5 (-110)
