NFL MVP Odds: Can Kyler Murray Get Back in the Race?

After missing three games due to injury, Kyler Murray returned to the lineup for the Arizona Cardinals in Week 13. He wasn’t asked to do much in his return, attempting just 15 passes, but he was extremely efficient in this game.

He went 11 of 15 for 123 yards (8.2 yards per attempt) and two passing touchdowns. On the season that puts him up to 2,399 yards 19 touchdowns and a 112.2 rating. If he plays out the rest of the season, will he be able to win MVP?

It will likely take a lot for him to get back into this race but over his final five games, he goes against the Lions, Cowboys, and Seahawks who have all struggled in the passing game. Right now just two guys are infront of him with Tom Brady as the favorite (+175) and Aaron Rodgers as the best challenger (+600).

Here’s how they compare right now statistically:

Tom Brady377168.3%34107.4314.310466.2
Aaron Rodgers287866.2%2344.7261.6105.565.2
Kyler Murray239972.71978.9266.6112.265.6

He’s had an unbelievable year and maybe if he didn’t get hurt and miss three games he could still be in the race but even so, how could it not be Tom Brady with these numbers? The guy is playing at an extremely high level at 44-years-old. It’s unfathomable that he can still do this year in and year out yet here we are. The three-time MVP winner, who first won the award when Kyler Murray was 10-years-old, is on the verge of doing it again.

Murray’s just 24 and he will likely get his shot at winning the MVP Award at some point over the next couple of years but right now, the old guard still has it.
