Jaguars Next Head Coach Odds: Byron Leftwich Leads The Way

The Jacksonville Jaguars were quick to move on from Urban Meyer. The former college coach becomes the third college coach to last less than one season in the NFL, joining Bobby Petrino and Lou Holtz. Now, oddsmakers turn their eyes towards who could replace the embattled Meyer.

The early favorite is former Jaguars QB and Buccaneers Offensive Coordinator Byron Leftwich. Leftwich is given +400 odds, or an implied 20% chance to land the job. Cowboys Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore trails right behind him at +500, or an implied 16.7% chance. New interim head coach Darrell Bevell is given +550 odds, or an implied 15.4% chance to land the job on a permanent basis this offseason.

Who Will the Jaguars Hire as Next Head Coach?

Often rumored hot head coaching candidates such as Eric Bieniemy, Brian Daboll. And Josh McDaniels also appear on the market. Bieniemy is given +700 odds, a 12.5% chance. Daboll is given +1000 odds or a 9.1% chance. Lastly, McDaniels is given +1400 odds, or just a 6.7% chance to land his second NFL head coaching job.

Of course, no odds market would be complete without some surprise dark horses. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is given +1400 odds to land the Jaguars job, same as McDaniels. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is given +1600 odds, or an implied 5.9% chance. Rounding out the group is Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin who is given +2500 odds, or a 3.8% chance.

The Jaguars are the first to fire their head coach, so they’ve gotten a head start on the hiring process. In just 2 weeks they can ask permission to interview candidates, and in the meantime, they can vet candidates and build a list. So, it looks like they’ll get their choice of candidates. Right now, oddsmakers are looking at a reunion with a former Jaguars star. As the process gets drawn out, it’s only a matter of time before this odds shift in a major way.
