NFL Coach of the Year Odds: Can Bill Belichick Hold Off the Surging Matt LaFleur?
For weeks now, it felt like the most obvious answer for the Coach of the Year was Bill Belichick. After starting the season 2-4, his Patriots rattled off seven straight wins and even found themselves as the one seed in the AFC with a rookie quarterback, Mac Jones, leading the way.
Well after the bye week for New England, they came out flat against the Colts and lost dropping to 9-5 on the season, and now face a pivotal divisional matchup against the Buffalo Bills this weekend.
Belichick is still the favorite to take home the award, for obvious reasons, but Matt LaFleur is coming on strong. His Packers are 11-3 and sitting as the best overall team in the league after winning three straight games. They’re clicking on all cylinders and Aaron Rodgers is playing at an MVP pace once again.
Is there a world where LaFleur can win it over Bill? If the Buffalo Bills win this week and end up taking the division with New England finishing at 11-6 and the Packers win out over the Browns, Vikings, and Lions and take home the one seed then he absolutely has to be seriously considered here.
At the end of the day, my assumption is that the Patriots win out and that Bill ends up taking home the award but it’s by no means a sure thing. Nothing is a sure thing in the NFL, we see that on a weekly basis.
LaFleur is absolutely still alive and at +300 that’s some phenomenal value. If you’re a believer in LaFleur or even think the Pats lose this week, this might be the play for you before this line moves in the wrong direction.
