Saints to Start Ian Book After Taysom Hill Tests Positive For COVID
On Monday Night Football, the New Orleans Saints will be taking on the Miami Dolphins at home. Fresh off an upset win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Saints were feeling pretty good about themselves but like most teams in the NFL, they were hit hard with COVID.
According to Ian Rapoport, the Saints will be starting Ian Book after Taysom Hill tested positive for COVID earlier.
Taysom Hill started the last three games for the Saints, throwing for two touchdowns, rushing for two more, and playing to a 62.6 quarterback rating along the way. Now, on relatively short notice, they will turn to Ian Book who they grabbed in the fourth round of the most recent NFL draft from Notre Dame.
Book has yet to see any action for the saints in the regular season but did attempt 16 passes in the preseason. He went nine of 16 for 126 yards and an interception. At Notre Dame, Book was a four-year starter with his best season coming in 2019.
Over his four-year career, he threw for 8,948 yards 72 touchdowns to just 20 interceptions. His play was good enough for a 147 career rating and a ninth-place finish in 2020 Heisman voting.
The Saints are still three-point favorites over Miami at home but look for line movement after that news. Sure, Taysom Hill has struggled this year but with Book such an unknown we’d expect Vegas to adjust the line in response.
