The Jacksonville Jaguars' head coaching search is already off to a messy start.
After firing Urban Meyer mid-season, the Jaguars have chosen to keep his hand-picked GM Trent Baalke. A move that seems to be having dire consequences. Still, oddsmakers do believe that the Jaguars will land a former head coach to take the reins.
The favorite is Alabama OC and former Texans HC Bill O’Brien. O’Brien is given +150 odds, or an implied 40% chance to become the next head coach of the Jaguars.
Second on the market is Jaguars interim head coach Darrell Bevell, who is given +300 odds, or an implied 25% chance to take the job full time.
Jim Caldwell is third at +550, or an implied 15.4% chance. Rounding out the top four is Doug Pederson at +750 or an implied 11.8% chance. Two other former head coaches appear on the market as well, though both are considered longshots. Patriots OC Josh McDaniels and Arizona State advisor Marvin Lewis are both given +2000 odds, or an implied 4.8% chance to land the job.
Oddsmakers are focusing on former head coaches here. They believe the Jaguars are looking for someone who has been there and done that to bring some stability to the franchise. It also doesn’t hurt that the Jaguars have hired six full-time head coaches and only two of them were head coaches for the first time, Jack Del Rio and Gus Bradley.
