The Minnesota Vikings have moved on Mike Zimmer after yet another season without a playoff appearance. Now oddsmakers expect the Vikings to target one of two young offensive coordinators.
Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy is the current favorite at +300, or an implied 25% chance to land the job. To this point, the Broncos are the only team to request an interview with Bieniemy.
Bills OC Brian Daboll is also seen as a strong contender, and he’s given +400 odds or a 20% chance to land the job. Daboll has been asked to interview for a few jobs, but not with the Vikings yet.
The only confirmed Vikings interview request at this point is former Eagles HC Doug Pederson. Oddsmakers currently give Pederson +900 odds, or a 10% chance to land the job. That’s 5th on the market behind Bieniemy, Daboll, Brian Flores, +800, and Andre Patterson, +800.
Former 49ers and current Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh finds himself behind that group at +1000. The Vikings have been underperforming for a few years, so a change was necessary. The issue facing a new head coach though is that 2022’s roster is pretty much set, but in 2023 the roster is going to get a hard reset with Kirk Cousins and others set to hit the open market. What head coach is going to willingly sign themselves up for a potential rebuild that may not be done until their first contract is?
