5 Options For the New York Giants to Target in the 2022 NFL Draft

The New York Giants made waves today with the hiring of their next General Manager. Joe Schoen will be leading the head coaching search and then after that taking care of free agency and the NFL Draft. Schoen is a lucky man with two picks in the top-10 as the Giants hold pick five and pick seven in the draft.

Today, we'll be focusing on the first pick (although I guess in theory they could double up and take two of these guys on the list). Here are five players the Giants can target in the NFL Draft.

Ikem Ekwonu - OL (NC State) | First Overall Pick Odds (Click Here to Bet at +500)

One thing the Giants desperately have to do is rebuild their offensive line. They've tried to over the past few years but haven't had a ton of success. Ikem Ekwonu would absolutely help that cause. Ekwonu could be a plug-and-play starter at left or right tackle. If need be he could play guard too but for the Giants, you'd probably imagine him outside at tackle.

George Karlaftis - Edge (Purdue)

The Giants will likely attack the offensive line but they could also use more help at Edge. The best Edge defender left at pick five will more than likely be George Karlaftis. He's a power rusher and can help a defense that ranked just 22nd in sacks on the season. He has an unbelievable motor and doesn't take a snap off which will make NFL GM's around the league fall in love with this kid.

Tyler Linderbaum - C (Iowa)

We're back to the offensive line here. Is top-five for a center too high? Not when Billy Price was playing the position for you last year. Linderbaum projects as a plug-and-play starter and a high-level one at that. Linderbaum has great hands, has impressive football IQ, and has the lateral mobility to make you believe that he will be a franchise center at the next level.

Charles Cross - OL - Mississippi State (Click Here to Bet at +8000)

Charles Cross projects as a really good pass protector at the next level. Sure, he can still use some work in the run game but pass blocking in a pass-happy league is extremely important. Cross could play on either the left or right side and Andrew Thomas, who has come along nicely, can play on the other side. With two top 10 picks one of them has to be on the offensive line and Cross is absolutely a candidate.

Kyle Hamilton - S (Notre Dame) | First Overall Pick Odds (Click Here to Bet at +10000)

Is safety the most pressing need for the Giants? Probably not, no but if Kyle Hamilton begins to fall, maybe they snatch him. Many look at the size, run-stopping ability, and coverage ability and see Hamilton as a generational player. If the Giants feel the same way, maybe they add the versatile playmaker on defense. The unit did take a major step back in 2021 from the impressive 2020 campaign.
