Saints Next Head Coach Odds: Who Will Be The Saints' Next HC After Sean Payton's Shocking Retirement?

Sean Payton has been the head coach of the New Orleans Saints for the past 15 years. He delivered the franchise its only Super Bowl title, coming in a win over the Colts in 2009, and has been the most successful coach in franchise history.

But, on Tuesday, Payton informed the Saints that he would be stepping away, forcing the franchise to start its search for its next head coach.

Sean Payton Steps Down as Saints Head Coach

The news comes as a shock to the rest of the NFL and fans of the team. Payton has long been considered one of the best coaches in the NFL. Still, it was quite obvious that the team hadn't been the same since its franchise QB, Drew Brees, announced his retirement in 2020.

Since taking over the Saints in 2006, Payton has compiled a record of 152-89 in the regular season. That includes nine seasons with double-digit wins and just four seasons with a record under .500. The worst record a Sean-Payton-coached Saints team ever finished with was 7-9.

New Orleans Saints Next Head Coach

So, who will be the next head coach of the New Orleans Saints?

Obviously, it's still early in the search process. But, there are some obvious names that come to mind. At the top of the list is current Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen. Allen was the former Oakland Raiders head coach, from 2012-2014, and served as Saints defensive coordinator before taking the Raiders job and after being fired.

Other names, besides Allen, that have already popped up for the Saints next head coach include Aaron Glenn, Vance Joseph, Byron Leftwich and Doug Pederson.
