Falcons Super Bowl Odds Take Hit After Calvin Ridley Suspension
Calvin Ridley has just become the 5th player in NFL history to be suspended for gambling. The Falcons will be without their star wide receiver for all of 2022, and perhaps longer. Oddsmakers believe that’s going to hurt them, though not as bad as you may think.
The Falcons entered the day with +5000 odds, or an implied 2% chance to win the Super Bowl. That put them 21st in the NFL, tied with the Raiders and Dolphins. They were in the tier of potential playoff teams, but not Super Bowl teams.

After the suspension, the Falcons have +6600 odds, or an implied 1.5% chance to win it all. That dropped them down to 25th in the NFL. Still among those same teams, now in the area of the Steelers and Commanders, both at +6000, and the Carolina Panthers at +7000.
By the time free agency and the draft end, it’s possible the Falcons move back up into that +5000 tier, or even higher. That’s especially true if they add a WR to replace Ridley such as Amari Cooper, Garrett Wilson, or Drake London.

The loss of Ridley hurts the Falcons, but oddsmakers know it doesn’t change much. They didn’t have Ridley for nearly all of the 2021 season anyway. They need to replace him, but it’s still very possible that they’ll improve on a lackluster receiving core from a year ago. If/When they do, those odds will shoot right back up, in large part due to the poor standing of the rest of the NFC South.
