Pittsburgh Steelers Week 1 Starting QB Odds: Mitchell Trubisky Given 68% Chance to Be the Week 1 Starting QB

One of the most stable franchises in professional sports, the Pittsburgh Steelers are currently in a position of flux. For the first time in 18 seasons, the Steelers will have a new starting QB as Ben Roethlisberger officially retired from the NFL. Who will fill Big Ben's shoes under center for this historic NFL franchise that is still in a position to make a deep run in the playoffs? Let's break down the most recent Pittsburgh Steelers Week 1 starting QB Odds.

Pittsburgh Steelers Week 1 Starting QB Odds

QBOddsImplied Chance
Mitchell Trubisky-22068.8%
Kenny Pickett+15539.2%

Kenny Pickett is given +155 odds, or an implied 39% chance to be the Steelers’ Week 1 starter. The veteran, Mitchell Trubisky, is given -220 odds or an implied 68% chance to win the job to start the season. Kenny Pickett is the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year, so at some point, oddsmakers are expecting Pickett to takeover the Steelers starting quarterback job.

The Steelers are a team in win-now mode. They have one of the best head coaches in Mike Tomlin and an outstanding defense. Tomlin has 15-straight winning seasons as Head Coach of the Steelers. Oddsmakers favor the former first-round pick of the Chicago Bears, Trubisky, because he likely gives the Steelers a better chance to win now. Trubisky spent last season with the Buffalo Bills as Josh Allen’s backup. That experience gained with a terrific Bills team has set him up to excel with the Steelers in a starting role again. In his last full season with the Bears, Trubisky played 10 games, throwing for 2,055 yards, 16 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

Kenny Pickett, a first-round pick by the Steelers in this year's draft, is likely to start at some point in the 2022 NFL season, but oddsmakers don't believe it will be in Week 1 when the Steelers play on the road at defending AFC Champion and AFC North division rivals the Cincinnati Bengals. This is likely a starting quarterback battle that will go down to the wire this preseason and one to keep a close eye on.
