Jimmy Garoppolo Trade Odds: Browns Favored to Land Garoppolo with Deshaun Watson Suspension Looming
Jimmy Garoppolo Trade Odds: Browns Favored to Land Garoppolo with Deshaun Watson Suspension Looming
The Cleveland Browns went out and traded the Houston Texans for Deshaun Watson, despite knowing whether or not he'd be able to play this season.
The Browns believed that they had reached their ceiling with Baker Mayfield and that it was time to add Deshaun Watson as the starting quarterback for the team.
Watson is certainly one of the best quarterback talents in the league. However, he's likely going to be suspended for at least six games due to allegations of sexual assault and sexual misconduct.
If Watson has to miss a large portion of the season, the Browns will need another quarterback. Right now, the 49ers have made Jimmy Garoppolo available in a trade. The Niners are confident moving forward with second-year quarterback Trey Lance. Can the 49ers and Browns strike a deal for Jimmy G?

Jimmy Garoppolo Next Team Breakdown
Currently, the Browns are favored to land Garoppolo. This is no surprise. As mentioned above, the Browns are going to have to deal with Watson being suspended. He's going to miss games. The question is how many games he will miss at this point.
Cleveland's backup is currently Jacoby Brissett. He has experience under center starting many games. However, he's never really been a star with any team he's been a part of. Garoppolo won't be a star either but he's been a terrific game manager when given the starting role in San Francisco.
He's been involved in big games and has done enough as a quarterback to get another opportunity. He's not going to be the best thrower down the field and he doesn't have mobility like many other quarterbacks in the league. But he's a game manager and always finds a way to win.
That's what you want out of your quarterback. You want a winner and that's all he's done in the NFL.
Garoppolo would be an upgrade to Brissett and Joshua Dobbs. But the thing is, the Browns already have three capable other quarterbacks on the roster between Brissett, Dobbs, and Josh Rosen.
So if the Browns don't bite, who will?
The Seahawks are an interesting choice right now. They're second on the odds list and will likely be starting Geno Smith. Smith and Drew Lock will compete for the starting position. So it's not like the Seahawks don't have potential with their two starters. But Jimmy G does seem like an upgrade to both at this point.
The Houston Texans likely want to tap into Davis Mills' potential. The Dolphins are all in on Tua, despite Garoppolo's former offensive coordinator in Miami. The Giants probably wouldn't get much more out of Jimmy G than they've been getting out of Daniel Jones. The Rams could consider Garoppolo with Stafford's injury and the Buccaneers can look to make Garoppolo Brady's backup again.
There aren't many fits for Garoppolo but I'll say this. The Browns and Seahawks currently make the most sense at this point.
