Pittsburgh Steelers Starting Quarterback Odds: Steelers Hint at Mitch Trubisky Starting Week 1

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Mitch Trubisky in the offseason to be the bridge to their next franchise quarterback. The plan was for Trubisky to serve as the veteran on this team while they look for the long term plan.

Well in the NFL Draft, they decided to go with Kenny Pickett in the first round out of Pittsburgh. It was essentially a perfect fit from day one.

During the offseason, there was a debate on who would end up starting but it appears like we have our answer. The Steelers will likely be starting Mitch Trubisky in Week 1.

Pittsburgh Steelers Starting Quarterback Odds Breakdown

There are two things that make me believe that Trubisky is the starter. First, when naming their captains today, the Steelers made Trubisky a captain. If the team and the coaching staff think that highly of him, how can you make him a starter just to sit him, that would be beyond strange.

Also, on the Steelers website, they have Mitch Trubisky as QB1 followed by Mason Rudolph and then Kenny Pickett. The chances of Rudolph coming in over Pickett seems slim but that's what the depth chart currently reads.

If the Steelers fall out of playoff contention, which I think is possible in that division, then I think we will see Pickett come in later. The Steelers know that Trubisky isn't the long-term answer, they just don't want to rush things with Pickett.

They just had massive success with Ben Roethlisberger, who they did not plan on starting right away as a rookie. An injury to Tommy Maddox happened and the rest is history.
