Since 1990, only four wide receivers have received an MVP vote, Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Sterling Sharpe, and most recently, Los Angeles Rams wideout, Cooper Kupp, who finished third in last season's voting behind Buccaneers QB, Tom Brady and eventual winner, Green Bay Packers QB, Aaron Rodgers.
No receiver has ever won the award with the closest being Jerry Rice during the 1995 season when the San Francisco 49ers legend finished in second place behind winner, Green Bay Packers QB, Brett Favre. Rice finished with just 10 of the 88 possible votes with Favre garnering 69 votes. Emmitt Smith (7) and Jim Harbaugh (2) were the only other vote-getters that year.
However, if anyone was going to break that trend, it'll be Minnesota Vikings star, Justin Jefferson. The LSU-product torched the division rival Packers for a 6-158-2 stat line in the first half of their week one showdown. Following his historic first-half performance, Jefferson would be on track for over 5,000 yards receiving to go along with 68 touchdowns. While a QB probably won't even touch those stats, this season, it just goes to show how dangerous Jefferson has been since entering the league in 2020, fresh off of a National Championship alongside, Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase with the LSU Tigers in 2019-20.
