NFC East Odds: Oddsmakers Not Convinced by the Giants' 3-1 Start

The NFC East looks to be a much closer race than most had thought before the season began. With an injury to Dak Prescott and a red-hot start by the Eagles, how do the NFC East odds look heading into Week 5?

Philadelphia Eagles (-300, Previous: -300) (Bet $300 to win $100)

The Eagles keep dominating their opponents in the early going, and they are now the only undefeated team in the entire NFL. At 4-0 they are creeping up the Super Bowl odds chart (+800, best in the NFC) and only the Buccaneers and Bills have better odds to win their own division.

I think the reason the Eagles didn't see a small shortening in their odds this week after a nice win over the Jaguars is that the Cowboys continue to look impressive even without Dak Prescott. It's hard to say a game in the first third of a season carries tremendous weight, but the October 16th clash between the Eagles and Cowboys could go a long way to determining who wins this division. The winner will have a huge advantage. The Eagles lead the NFL in rushing touchdowns and seem completely unstoppable on the ground with the four-headed monster of Jalen Hurts, Miles Sanders, Kenneth Gainwell, and Boston Scott.

Dallas Cowboys (+370, Previous: +500)  (Bet $100 to win $370)

The Cowboys have had convincing wins against the Giants and Commanders the last two weeks, which already gives them a massive advantage in the divisional race and tiebreaker scenarios. Add in a win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2 after Dak Prescott got hurt, and this team has not missed a beat despite missing their star quarterback.

Why have they been so successful? Beyond just the impressive rapport between Cooper Rush and CeeDee Lamb, the defense has been absolutely monstrous against their opponents. The Cowboys allow the lowest yards per attempt on passes this year, have the second-most sacks and have the fourth-best first-down allowed rate in the NFL. Micah Parsons and Trayvon Diggs are both game-changers at their positions and are leading this group to allow just 15.5 points per game.

New York Giants (+1400, Previous: +1400)  (Bet $100 to win $1400)

Many NFL analysts (and fans) believe the Giants are the luckiest 3-1 team in the league to start the year. Their wins came against the Tennessee Titans, the Carolina Panthers, and the Chicago Bears, all teams who look absolutely lost to start the season. And New York beat those teams by a combined 12 points. Their one loss came in a home game to a Cooper Rush-led Cowboys, a sign of what is to come when the Giants start playing more divisional games. The Giants have games against the Packers, Ravens, and upstarts Jaguars upcoming. This could easily be a 3-4 team after seven weeks.

The wide receiver room for the Giants has been decimated by injury. Kadarious Toney, Sterling Shepard, and rookie Wan'Dale Robinson are hurt. Kenny Golladay isn't even playing and wants out of town. Washed-up players like Richie James ad Darius Slayton are leading the team in receiving these days. However, Saquon Barkley looks healthy again and is back to being the Swiss Army knife in the Giant's offense. If this team goes anywhere at all it will be on his back as long as he is on the field.

Washington Commanders (+6500, Previous: +3000)  (Bet $100 to win $6500)

There isn't much good news coming out of the Commanders' season these days. They have lost three in a row to fall to 1-3, there are rumblings that Carson Wentz may not have been the right call at quarterback for this team, Curtis Samuel is now sick, Antonio Gibson is ineffective, and Chase Young is still on IR.

But while not much is looking up for Washington (including their odds of winning the division), they did get good news regarding the health and return of Brian Robinson. Robinson is the prized rookie running back who was shot during an armed robbery and has missed the first four weeks of the year. Robinson is now back at practice and almost ready to be back in games. That emotional victory doesn't count in the standings, but this team could use any good fortune now considering their terrible start.
