NFL OROY Odds: Breece Hall Enters the Picture Following Week 5

With over a month of NFL work under their belts, the 2022 NFL Rookie class is proving to be extremely deep with talent on the offensive side of the ball. Ryan Kirksey is back with an updated snapshot of the 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds.

Romeo Doubs NFL OROY Odds: (+1000), Previous: (+900) (Bet $100 to Win $1000)

Doubs took a major step backward in Week 5 as he caught only three passes for 29 yards and no scores while the Packers were embarrassed in the London game. That poor outing plus the emergence of other players on this list takes him down a peg to fifth in oddsmakers eyes, just ahead of other star wide receiver prospects Garrett Wilson and George Pickens.

The other factor for Doubs in clinching this award will be Allen Lazard. Since missing Week 1w with injury, Lazard has at least six targets in three of four games and has three touchdowns as well. Aaron Rodgers seems to be zeroing in on his running mate from the past three seasons, and other receivers are being pushed to the side. It doesn't bode well for Doubs' hopes of winning.

Drake London NFL OROY Odds: (+1000), Previous: (+650) (Bet $100 to Win $1000)

Drake London once again loses a decent amount of ground this week after back-to-back bad performances for the Falcons. London caught only four balls for 35 scoreless yards despite being targeted seven times. With Cordarelle Patterson and Kyle Pitts out for Atlanta, the offense looked messy and London was brought down with it.

London led these rankings just three weeks ago, so the talent is there, but it seems the oddsmakers are favoring the running backs and their increasing usage these days. London would have to start making some serious strides in the coming weeks to gain those that have moved well past him in odds to win OROY.

Chris Olave NFL OROY Odds: (+600), Previous: (+500) (Bet $100 to Win $600) 

Olave endures a small tumble in his odds this week even after producing in a strong way in Week 5. Olave was targeted six times and managed 54 yards and a touchdown, but he also suffered what looked like a serious concussion on the scoring play. As of the time of this writing, it was unclear when he would be able to play again.

Olave has looked like the best wide receiver in the class at times, and still leads all players win air yards by more than 100 yards. But any missed time would be a severe blow to his hopes of taking home the award, particularly because the two running backs ahead of him are gaining a lot of steam.

Breece Hall NFL OROY Odds: (+600), Previous: (Unranked) (Bet $100 to Win $600)

After a relatively slow start to the season, Breece Hall fires his way up these ranks like he was shot out of a cannon. On Sunday, Hall had 97 rushing yards, 100 receiving yards, and a touchdown. His day could also have been even bigger, but Michael Carter stole two one-yard touchdowns from him at the goal line against the Dolphins.

But the most encouraging thing about Hall's candidacy for OROY is that he has firmly supplanted Michael Carter as the team's lead back. Hall had 18 carries and two targets on Sunday with only 10 carries and two targets for Carter. Carter played 42% of the snaps while Hall was in on 69%. At 3-2 now, the Jets are going to be looking to play for the playoffs this season, and Hall is their best bet in the backfield to get there. He has the talent and the draft capital (drafted 36th overall this year) to completely take over the job. At +600, this is definitely a bet worth making.

Dameon Pierce NFL OROY Odds: (+450), Previous: (+800) (Bet $100 to Win $450)

In his past three games, Pierce has amassed 310 yards on the ground, 43 in the air and three rushing touchdowns, and he looks like the player to beat for OROY this year. Another strong game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5 caused Pierce's odds to shorten way down to just +450, and he has the upper hand on the award as the season enters the one-third mark.

One stat, in particular, gives Pierce bettors a tremendous amount of optimism. While the Texans only call rushing plays 39% of the time this year (19th in the league), they called for a run on 55% of their plays when they were in a neutral game script against Jacksonville on Sunday. More close games in their future could lead to a significant uptick in work for Pierce. He already is putting up strong numbers, and extra carries might tip the scales completely in his favor.
