Derek Carr Rumors: Sportsbooks Believe Derek Carr Will Replace Tom Brady in Tampa Bay
Tom Brady has announced his retirement and the sportsbooks believe this one will stick. Brady is given -2000 odds, or an implied 95.2% chance to remain retired. So the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on the lookout for a new quarterback and Derek Carr is the favorite to land the job.
Derek Carr Next Team Odds
Team | Odds | Implied chance |
---|---|---|
Tampa Bay Buccaneers | +400 | 20% |
New York Jets | +450 | 18.2% |
Indianapolis Colts | +450 | 18.2% |
Carolina Panthers | +600 | 14.3% |
Washington Commanders | +700 | 12.5% |
The Bucs had been on the outside looking in on the Derek Carr chase for weeks. When the market opened they were given +800 odds or an implied 12.5% chance. They were behind the New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts but were tied with the Carolina Panthers for third on the market. Well, with Brady’s retirement, Tampa Bay has jumped to the front of the line at +400, or an implied 20% chance. Jumping the Jets who’ve fallen to +450.
The 31-year-old isn’t the only option on the table though. They’re also given +475 odds or an implied 17.4% chance to land Lamar Jackson. Aaron Rodgers is also a possibility with +700 odds or an implied 12.5% chance.
Tampa Bay is in a tough spot with the cap, as they’re currently 55 million over the cap. So it’s going to take some kind of magical cap manipulation to get this done. So it’s difficult to see them getting Lamar Jackson or Aaron Rodgers under contract. It’s possible, but difficult, which is why they’re more a longshot for one of them.
Derek Carr is a more realistic option, and with other quarterback-needy teams like the Jets focused elsewhere, the Jets are +150 to land Rodgers, it has opened the door for the Bucs to land Carr. Will they take advantage or will they rely on Kyle Trask?
