Saquon Barkley Next Team Odds: Bears Early Favorites to Land Barkley

With the New York Giants potentially being forced to franchise tag Daniel Jones, that could mean that Saquon Barkley is going to hit free agency. Where could one of the best running backs in the NFL end up? If he does hit the market, the Chicago Bears are the early favorites.

Chicago is given +300 odds or an implied 25% chance to land Barkley if he hits free agency. Their toughest competition is expected to come from the Buffalo Bills who are given +400 odds, or an implied 20% chance.

The market in general is expected to be crowded. Eight teams are currently given better than a 10% chance to land Barkley on the open market. There’s no real rhyme or reason to the market either. It ranges from bad teams like the Bears, Denver Broncos +500, New England Patriots +700, and Carolina Panthers +850 to the best teams in the league like the Bills, Kansas City Chiefs +600, Baltimore Ravens +700, and Dallas Cowboys +850.

The only constant on the market is that these are the teams who demonstrated they can run the football last season. Five of the top-10 rushing teams are expected to pursue Barkley this offseason, and the Giants were fourth in rushing.

Saquon Barkley is one of the trickiest free agents in a while. An elite talent at a young age, the 26-year-old should be a coveted free agent. However, teams tend to avoid high-priced running backs. The last top-end running back to head to free agency was LeVeon Bell and that contract didn’t work out.

So teams will likely be wary. Still, a team looking to build out an elite running game likely won’t be able to pass on Barkley, and the Bears make perfect sense given their young quarterback.
