NFL Draft Odds: CJ Stroud Heavy Favorite to be First Pick by Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers completed a blockbuster trade to land the top pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The expectation is they did so with a quarterback in mind. The books believe they’ve made it pretty obvious. Below, we will break down the latest NFL first pick odds.
Carolina traded a haul of picks and D.J. Moore to the Chicago Bears in exchange for the first pick, a decision that could come back to be the right or wrong one in a decade. If the Panthers get their quarterback for the next decade, this will be a brilliant move.

Coming into the day, CJ Stroud was given +200 NFL Draft first pick odds, while Bryce Young was given -175 odds. That’s a 33.3% chance for Stroud and a 63.6% chance for Young.
After the Panthers' trade for the first overall pick was announced, that was completely flipped. Stroud is now given -350 odds, or an implied 76.7% chance to be the first pick in the draft. Young is given +275 odds, or an implied 20.8% chance.
You can’t count out Anthony Richardson either. The Combine star is given +380 odds, or an implied 22.2% chance to be selected first. Still a clear third place, but it wouldn’t be a shock if he was the selection.
The sportsbooks clearly believe that CJ Stroud to the Panthers is locked in at number one. This kind of wild change in the odds after one move almost never happens.
Even on the day before the draft when the odds are most vulnerable, there’s still nothing like this. It’d be an upset at this point if Stroud were to lose his spot as favorite. That is, so long as the Panthers hold onto the first overall pick.
