We all watched Aaron Rodgers go down on his fourth snap on Monday Night Football. After running out in an electric atmosphere at MetLife Stadium, the star veteran signal-caller completely tore his Achilles tendon while facing pressure in the pocket. Disappointing is an understatement when it comes to the Jets' locker room, fan base, and the immediate future of this oft-maligned franchise.
The Jets haven't made the playoffs since 2010 with quarterback Mark Sanchez and head coach Rex Ryan. Even back then, it was the Jets' defense that carried them to two consecutive AFC Championship games. The offense was not the focal point of the winning recipe. Perhaps that could be the case once again in 2023.

The modern NFL is all about speed, adaptability, and personnel. Losing a talent like Rodgers is extremely difficult, but there are ways to navigate the loss. Third-year quarterback Zach Wilson was drafted second overall out of BYU and has not been able to piece it all together. There's no doubting his mobility and strong arm, but Wilson's accuracy and decision-making, arguably the two most important traits a quarterback possesses, remain a problem.
Could the Jets make a move at quarterback? They are in a tough spot, especially since they already damaged Wilson's confidence in 2022. After an offseason getting mentored by Rodgers, we could see improvement in the next few games. That is until one looks at the upcoming schedule. The Jets go on the road to play the Cowboys, then come back home to face the Patriots and Chiefs. Wilson has no room for error and has to overcome the poor play we saw on Monday night.
If Wilson can eliminate mistakes, maybe the Jets can go on a run with their defense leading the charge, just like in 2010. However, Head Coach Robert Saleh has to navigate the difficult decisions behind benching Wilson yet again for a fairly barren quarterback market. A drop from 20/1 to 65/1 is huge, and some may sprinkle this lucrative line, but I'm not buying into a Super Bowl win from a team that hasn't won the AFC since 1968.
