  • Jameis Winston

Is Kirk Cousins cooked or was a 2024 return too ambitious?

We take the good and the bad with Cousins and while he’s always had inconsistency in his game, 2024 went well beyond inconsistency - it was easily the worst year of Cousins’ entire career as a starter. It’s very possible that we underestimated the effects of a torn Achilles on a plant foot for a quarterback. Perhaps returning on less than a year of recovery was a bit too ambitious. The market for Cousins will be slimmer in 2025 but with many quarterback-needy teams in an underwhelming draft class, Cousins is still a big free agency factor.

Can Sam Darnold still command a big contract?

Darnold’s season tumbled from MVP chants, proclaiming that Minnesota must re-sign Darnold and trade J.J. McCarthy to a forgone conclusion that he’ll hit free agency. While the end result was a disaster, Danold proved he can thrive in the right system with strong weapons. The likelihood of Darnold taking a team to the Super Bowl is slim to none. However, given the lack of top-tier prospects at quarterback this year, Darnold will be a very appealing sign for a team looking to draft a developmental quarterback and use Darnold as a multi-year bridge.

***Special note: I’m hoping Jameis Winston retires and takes on his next calling because we were truly blessed this Super Bowl week.

Running Backs

  • Najee Harris
  • Aaron Jones
  • Javonte Williams
  • J.K. Dobbins
  • Nick Chubb
  • Rico Dowdle

Can Najee Harris benefit from the success of 2024 free agent running backs?

Statistically, we got the same year we’ve seen from Harris for the past two seasons - 1,000 rushing yards, single-digit rushing touchdowns and some mild impact in the receiving game. However, visually, Harris looked much improved and can still carry a three-down back workload. He benefits from a weak free agency class, but the rookie draft class is very deep. Harris is the top dog of free agency but teams might feel less inclined to shell out a big contract with strong options in the draft.

Wide Receivers

  • Tee Higgins
  • Chris Godwin
  • Stefon Diggs
  • Keenan Allen
  • Amari Cooper
  • Diontae Johnson
  • Hollywood Brown
  • Elijah Moore
  • DeAndre Hopkins

Is this the year we finally see Tee Higgins hit the market?

Joe Burrow has spent Super Bowl week publicly imploring Cincinnati’s management to retain the Bengals’ top talent and Higgins was a big focus of the plea. Ja’Marr Chase’s contract is likely the top priority for the Bengals, and Higgins hitting the market is very real. Higgins stands a get a significant payday in free agency and while Burrow would love to retain Higgins, the team could opt to focus resources on improving the defense and let Higgins walk.

What should we expect from Chris Godwin coming off a dislocated ankle?

Before his injury, Godwin was on fire, pacing potentially for a career year and even outperforming Mike Evans. Godwin hitting the market would be huge and we’d love to see him as a team’s true WR1, but Tampa Bay has shown a willingness to work through retaining key talent. The Bucs offense thrived under Liam Coen and while his loss is significant, the Bucs promoted from within and we should expect good continuation of the existing scheme.
