4 Minute ReadRafael Jodar vs. Kei Nishikori Prediction: Will Rising Star Jodar Make Quick Work of Veteran Nishikori on Wednesday Night?
Rafael Jodar meets Kei Nishikori in the Round of 16 at the ATP Washington tournament on Wednesday evening. Jodar has ballooned to a massive -600 favorite after entering his opener as a slight underdog, while Nishikori is priced at +410 following his first ATP main-draw victory in more than a year.
The matchup presents a sharp contrast between one of the tour’s fastest-rising young players and a former World No. 4 nearing the end of his decorated career. Nishikori showed considerable determination in the opening round, but he now faces a younger, faster and more powerful opponent who appears ready to turn this match into a physical mismatch.

Rafael Jodar vs. Kei Nishikori Prediction
Jodar produced one of Tuesday’s most impressive results by eliminating No. 8 seed Arthur Fils 7-6(5), 6-3. The Spaniard handled the difficult heat and humidity, remained composed through a tight opening-set tiebreak and then separated from Fils in the second set. The victory gave Jodar another win over a higher-ranked opponent and continued a breakthrough season in which he has rapidly established himself as a legitimate ATP contender.
Nishikori had to work much harder to advance, rallying past Juncheng Shang 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-4 in two hours and 31 minutes. It was the 36-year-old’s first ATP Tour victory since May 2025 after another extended stretch disrupted by injuries. The former US Open finalist remains an intelligent ball-striker with exceptional timing, but recovering from a demanding three-set match creates a significant concern against one of the quickest players in the draw.
Jodar’s athleticism should define the matchup. He can defend the corners, extend rallies and force Nishikori to generate repeated power from uncomfortable positions. Nishikori once excelled in those exchanges, but his recent physical history and reduced match volume make it difficult to expect him to maintain that intensity against a 19-year-old coming off a confident straight-sets victory.

The -600 moneyline is too expensive to use on its own, while the total creates a more appealing route. Nishikori needed time to find his range against Shang and dropped the opening set before his opponent’s own lack of match preparation became a factor. Jodar is far sharper, more explosive and better equipped to punish a slow start before controlling the match with his movement and depth.
