Joe Burrow Bengals Roll Out

Cincinnati Bengals Super Bowl Odds: Bengals Odds Crash After Joe Burrow Injury News

The Cincinnati Bengals lost Joe Burrow for most of the regular season after a toe injury he suffered on Sunday against the Jaguars. Predictably, the Bengals Super Bowl odds and division hopes have tanked, but just how far out of the mix are they? Peter Alexis analyzes the updated Cincinnati Bengals Super Bowl odds following the Joe Burrow injury.

Cincinnati Bengals See Super Bowl Odds Crater Following Joe Burrow Injury News

Joe Burrow went down hard on a first half sack on Sunday afternoon, with Erik Armstead and a trio of Jaguars landing on his leg. The superstar QB stayed down on the field for several minutes before limping off and heading straight to the locker room.

Bengals fans held their breath while waiting for the injury update, as Jake Browning stepped in as the backup quarterback. He led Cincy on a miraculous comeback, culminating in a game-winning touchdown with just seconds remaining to win the home opener and even cover the -3.5 spread.

But the excitement was short lived, with reports emerging after the game that Burrow would potentially need toe surgery. The fears were confirmed on Monday morning, with Burrow opting to get the procedure that would sideline him for three months. That places his return in Mid-December at best, with maybe three games remaining in the regular season.

As a result, the Bengals Super Bowl odds, playoff chances, and division hopes tanked down in an instant, and they'll have to scratch and claw to stay relevant in Burrow's absence. Let's take a look at the complete Cincinnati Bengals odds change following the injury.

Cincinnati Bengals Super Bowl Odds

The Bengals had preseason Super Bowl odds of +1800, firmly in the top-10 chances of the NFL. Joe Burrow was also +600 to win the NFL MVP after a dominant offensive campaign from a year ago, but those hopes are gone now. The Super Bowl odds have tanked down to +5000 at most sportsbooks, and even further at +8000 at others, giving Cincy just a 2% chance of winning it all.

Most of that hinges on the play of Jake Browning in Burrow's absence. They would have to stay in playoff contention for him to come back in mid-December and give them a chance. The odds of them making the playoffs are not terrible at +175, but still a tall task for a backup quarterback in the AFC North.

Updated AFC North Odds

Speaking of which, the division odds took a massive hit. In the preseason, the Bengals at +260 odds to win the AFC North, only slightly behind the Ravens at -135. Now, Baltimore has ballooned to -400 despite an opening loss to the Bills, while Cincy at 2-0 is back at +800. Trying to stay competitive in this gauntlet of a division with a backup QB for three months is going to be nearly impossible, and the oddsmakers know it.

Even if Browning picks up a few wins for them, they are up against it. There is a trio of matchups against the Ravens, Bills, and Ravens again in early December that Burrow likely will not suit up for, though it's too early to tell how his recovery will go. If they are even in playoff contention at that point, losing all three of those would send their odds plummeting further.
