PGA Power Rankings: Top 5 for Sony Open in Hawaii
Event No. 2 of the 2024 PGA Tour calendar year is upon us, as Chris Kirk walked away with the Sentry last week at a staggering -29 under par. While this week’s winner likely won’t go quite as low, this week’s Sony Open is another event where you should expect to see eye-popping scores.
Let’s take a closer look at the five guys I expect to do some damage this week in Hawaii.

Waialae Country Club, Honolulu, HI
A resort-style course, Waialae Country Club comes in well short of the Tour average as it measures just a hair over 7,000 yards. Featuring Bermuda grass throughout, the course rough was increased by nearly 30% last year in an effort to make the layout more challenging. As we saw last week at The Sentry, this is a course located directly on the coast, and wind will be a factor throughout the weekend.
1. Ludvig Aberg (+1600) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds
Simply put, Aberg should be able to overpower this course in a way that only the highest-level PGA Tour players in the world can. After a lackluster performance last week, look for a strong bounce back here for the young emerging star.
2. Matt Fitzpatrick (+1600) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds
Finishing -22 last week was good enough for T14, Fitzpatrick is one of the most talented players in this field. The last time we saw him win was at a course nearly identical in style to this at the RBC Heritage.
3. Brian Harman (+2000) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds
The Open Championship winner Harman makes the trek to Honolulu where he’s enjoyed quite a bit of success. In 10 straight years of playing this event, Harman has finished T5 three times. His game’s already in shape this year, finishing T5 last week to get things started.
4. Tyrell Hatton (+1800) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds
Making his debut here, Hatton is the third highest-ranked golfer in the field, and no doubt a threat to over-power this course. Coming off a 12th place last week, look for some forward momentum to start this season from the Brit.
5. Russell Henley (+2000) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds
Having won here in his first start on the PGA Tour in 2013, Henley nearly did it again nine years later in 202 before falling apart over the final few holes. His game fits well here as one of the shorter players on Tour with a killer wedge game.
