5 minPGA Power Rankings: Top 5 for Farmers Insurance Open
The PGA Tour continues its California swing on Wednesday morning live from La Jolla, CA just outside San Diego playing four days of golf over Torrey Pines North and South Courses. The golf world was a buzz this week following the first amateur since Phil Mickelson, Nick Dunlap, winning outright in last week’s American Express.
Originally supposed to be in the field again this week, Dunlap has decided to withdraw from the field following the whirlwind that has been the past week. However, last year’s Farmers Insurance Open Champion will be on hand as Max Homa returns to defend his title at +1200 odds.
Let’s look at the five guys I expect to have the best chance of winning this week in Southern California.

Torrey Pines Golf Course, San Diego, CA
Coming in at 7,258 (North Course) and 7,765 (South Course), Torrey Pines is a beast of a property that challenges players on the Tour every year. With longer than average distance, it has smaller than average green sizes, making both drives and approaches equally important.
1. Xander Schauffele (+900) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds
Finishing T3 last week at the American Express, Schauffele is 2-2 this season thus far in top 10 starts following a T10 at the Sentry. Finishing T2 here in 2021, the course(s) fit Schauffele’s game well.
2. Collin Morikawa (+1100) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds
Growing up a few hours north in Los Angeles, Torrey Pines has long been Morikawa’s backyard and is a course that also fits him well. Making his season debut at the Sentry last week, he finished T5 after a strong weekend. In what will be his third start here at the Farmers, Morikawa finished 3rd in the event last year.
3. Patrick Cantlay (+1100) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds
Being one of the leaders on the oddsboard last week at the Sentry, Cantlay fell quite short, finishing with a Sunday 76 to finish outside the top 50. Though he hasn’t played here since 2019, missing the cut, he’s one of the most talented guys in the field.
4. Max Homa (+1200) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds
Homa returns to Torrey Pines one year after he took the event home. He’s playing great golf, as well, finishing T14 last week for his ninth straight event finishing T15 or better.
5. Ludvig Aberg (+2200) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds
The PGA newcomer will be making his debut this week at Torrey Pines and comes in with as much hype as any young player in the world. One of the best ball strikers in the field, he should do just fine on the new track.
