The sixth Signature Event of the 2024 PGA Tour schedule is set to get underway at the Wells Fargo Championship. Located at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, 69 of the best golfers on the PGA Tour have qualified to compete without an enforced cut-line for four rounds.

Rory McIlroy and Max Homa have been dominant at this event since 2010, with Homa winning in 2019 and 2022. McIlroy's outright wins at Quail Hollow came in 2010, 2015, and 2021.

Last year's defending champion, Wyndham Clark, has since added two more outright wins to his resumé, torching the field with a record-setting 8-under-par during Saturday's third round in 2023. This yielded a four-stroke lead at 19-under-par for Clark to breakthrough on the PGA Tour.

Without Scottie Scheffler teeing it up, and Ludvig Åberg withdrawing due to a sore knee, the top two performers at The Masters won't be competing. This opens up the leaderboard for what should be an exciting week at Quail Hollow Club.

WELLS FARGO CHAMPIONSHIP COURSE: QUAIL HOLLOW CLUB

Playing as a par 71, Quail Hollow Club opens up with three consecutive par 4 holes. Only one par 5 is on the front-nine, while the back-nine is highlighted by the notorious "Green Mile" finish on holes 16-18.

The greens have been modified to feature TifEagle Bermudagrass, replacing the Champion Bermudagrass used in previous years. Putting velocity is expected to reach up to 13 feet via Stimpmeter, faster than the standard 12 feet players are accustomed to on the PGA Tour.

Water hazards abound, especially on the back-nine around the greens. Initially designed by George Cobb in 1961, this is a lengthy track running over 7,500 yards. Overseeded ryegrass and Bermudagrass rough stands just over two inches.

Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele have shorter odds than Wyndham Clark to win outright, but I'm backing the defending champion despite history not being on his side. No winner has ever gone back-to-back at this event, but Clark's ranked 14th strokes gained off-the-tee and ninth strokes gained putting. He's no slouch with his approach shots either. At 16-1 odds, Clark is a great value to invest in ahead of Round 1.

Homa is looking to tie Rory McIlroy with three outright wins at the Wells Fargo Championship this year. Homa contended at Augusta National until the back-nine arrived on Sunday. None of his stats pop off the page, but Homa is clearly comfortable at Quail Hollow, bouncing between two wins and a T8 finish since his first win in 2019.

Yes, he missed the cut here in 2021. However, after a disappointing showing at RBC Heritage during the fifth Signature Event he played, expect a strong bounce back effort from Homa this week.

Tommy Fleetwood is flying under the radar at 25-1 odds. He's still seeking his first PGA Tour win, but he's turned in previous finishes of T8 and T14 in 2023 and 2021. The Englishman has three top-ten finishes in 2024 and ranks third in driving accuracy rate and 15th strokes gained around the green. He's also 17th in scrambling, so backing Fleetwood at a course where he's historically performed well makes a lot of sense at this price.

Another Englishman, Matt Fitzpatrick, is a pure ball-striker who can excel at Quail Hollow. He's had a bit of a down year with his irons, but Fitzpatrick remains one of the better putters on the PGA Tour, ranked 28th strokes gained putting. Plus, Fitzpatrick is 12th in total driving and recorded a T2 finish at 6-under-par during Homa's second win here in 2022. 35-1 is great value to acquire on Fitzpatrick, so invest accordingly.

In golf, ridiculously long odds tend to hit every now and then. Brendon Todd at +17000 in the outright winner market is a screaming value that we cannot ignore. The Georgia native recorded a T8 finish at Quail Hollow in 2023 and a T18 finish in 2019.

He has three career wins, although his last victory came at the 2019 Bermuda Championship. Todd recorded a T5 finish at Valero in early April and a T6 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He's ranked 18th strokes gained putting and 35th strokes gained around the green. 35th in scrambling means Todd can overcome errant lies on his approach shots, which will be crucial to climbing the leaderboard at this event.

A 0.10 unit wager returns 17 units, so it doesn't hurt to sprinkle on Todd's outright odds at this ridiculously long price ahead of Round 1.
