PGA Power Rankings: Top 5 Golfers For 2024 Travelers Championship

The eighth and final Signature Event of the 2024 PGA Tour season will be held at the Travelers Championship this week.

Hosted at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, this par 70 track will be a stark contrast from the difficult scoring conditions we've seen golfers struggle on at Muirfield and Pinehurst No. 2 across the last few weeks. Keegan Bradley is the defending champion, while World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, despite his lackluster showing at the U.S. Open this past week, remains the overwhelming betting favorite at +360 odds in the outright winner market.

No cut line will be enforced against this field of 71 highly-qualified golfers, meaning a slow start won't be penalized as much as we tend to see at non-Signature Events. Still, the prime scoring conditions on one of the PGA Tour's shortest courses should see red numbers early and often.

PGA handicapper Matt MacKay is here to offer his top 5 power rankings, plus course analysis, ahead of the 2024 Travelers Championship.

2024 TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP START TIME AND WHERE TO WATCH

  • Date: June 20-23, 2024
  • Where: TPC River Highlands, Cromwell, Connecticut
  • Where to Watch: ESPN+, Golf Channel, CBS

TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP COURSE

Playing as a par 70, despite only having two par 5 holes, TPC River Highlands runs under 6,840 yards in length. Most of the par 4s are under 450 yards, so powerful off-the-tee prowess and accurate ball-striking on approach will go a long way to determine the leaderboard.

Water hazards abound at TPC River Highlands, particularly on holes 15-17, with a four-acre lake presenting plenty of challenges to overcome. Surfaces are Bentgrass and Poa annua blend in the fairways, four-inch bluegrass rough, and Poa annua greens that are estimated to run 12 feet via Stimpmeter.

In the past five Travelers Championship events, four of the five winning scorecards have been 17-under-par or lower, with Keegan Bradley setting a 72-hole course record at 23-under-par in 2023. The greens are much less contoured and punishing than Pinehurst No. 2 . The rough at TPC River Highlands is lush and thick, much different than the sand and wire grass plants were errant lies wound up at the U.S. Open.

2024 TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP POWER RANKINGS

1. SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER +360 CLICK HERE TO SEE WHICH SPORTSBOOK HAS THE BEST ODDS

Scottie Scheffler is due for a bounce-back campaign at what projects to be a birdie-fest at TPC River Highlands this week. He's gone T13 and T4 in the past two years at this event, so there's no doubt about Scheffler's comfort level playing this course.

He remains ranked first strokes gained: approach, while also 4th SG: off-the-tee and 11th SG: around the green. Yes, the putter ebbs and flows, but with Scheffler's ball-striking talent, and the recent win at Memorial, marking his first outright win past the month of April in his decorated PGA Tour career, expect him to contend for his sixth outright win this week.

2. XANDER SCHAUFFELE +750 CLICK HERE TO SEE WHICH SPORTSBOOK HAS THE BEST ODDS

Xander Schauffele won this event in 2022 at -19-under-par, going 14-under-par in the first two rounds at TPC River Highlands. It's been a successful season for Schauffele, finally winning his first major at the PGA Championship and recording 11 top-ten finishes.

Ranked fifth SG: approach, 17th SG: putting, and ninth SG: off-the-tee, there are hardly any weaknesses when it comes to analyzing Schauffele's game. He struggled a bit at Pinehurst No. 2 but still wound up T7 on the final leaderboard, so if Schauffele settles into a rhythm early, he's going to be in contention come Sunday afternoon at a good outright price of +750 odds.

3. RUSSELL HENLEY +2800 CLICK HERE TO SEE WHICH SPORTSBOOK HAS THE BEST ODDS

Russell Henley has a pair of T19 finishes at TPC River Highlands since 2021 and he's available to bet in the outright winner market at 28-1 odds.

Coming in with five top-ten finishes, including a T7 at Pinehurst No. 2 this past weekend, along with a T12 at the RBC Heritage and T10 at the Wells Fargo Championship, both Signature Events, Henley is poised to make a run at the Travelers Championship this week.

Henley ranks eighth in total strokes gained, including 18th SG: around the green and 21st SG: putting, plus 30th SG: tee-to-green. His approach shots are solid, inside the top-50, but off-the-tee needs some work, although he's fifth in driving accuracy. This benefits Henley at a shorter track like TPC River Highlands, so a 0.25 unit wager is sufficient at this fairly lucrative 28-1 price.

4. COREY CONNERS +3500 CLICK HERE TO SEE WHICH SPORTSBOOK HAS THE BEST ODDS

One of the PGA Tour's best iron players, Corey Conners enters this event at 35-1 in the outright winner betting market. Yes, his two career wins have come at Valero in 2019 and 2023, but Conners has been playing well lately, carding finishes of solo sixth at the RBC Canadian Open and T9 at the U.S. Open.

Ranked second SG: approach, behind only Scheffler, and 26th SG: off-the-tee, his short game is what holds Conners back from contending at more events. In 2023, he carded a T9 finish at TPC River Highlands, after missing the cut back in 2019.

Conners went 3-under-par or lower in all four rounds last year, so another quality start for the Canadian could put him in a position to contend for the outright win this week. A 0.10 unit wager to grab 3.5 units of profit is the right play here.

5. BRIAN HARMAN +4500 CLICK HERE TO SEE WHICH SPORTSBOOK HAS THE BEST ODDS

One of the most consistent golfers at the Travelers Championship historically, Brian Harman enters this event without a whole lot of momentum.

Despite his best finish in the past five events being T24 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, Harman's numbers at this course are phenomenal, even without an outright win to date. He wound up T2 in 2023, sitting at 20-under-par, which would've won the event in any other year if not for Bradley's record-setting pace.

Ranked 24th SG: putting and 56th SG: approach, his driver is accurate enough to create good lies for approach shots this week at TPC River Highlands. Harman is also 37th in hole proximity and 43rd scrambling, posting good numbers in a variety of key metrics.

The flat stick is his best weapon and Harman ranks 35th for par 4 scoring average, so at 45-1 odds, one more 0.10 unit sprinkle on the Georgia native is warranted at the Travelers Championship this week.
