2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic Odds: Bettors on Cam Davis at Detroit Golf Club

The Rocket Mortgage Classic is the next event on the 2024 PGA Tour circuit. We're guaranteed to get an outright winner other than Scottie Scheffler, who beat Tom Kim at the Travelers Championship on Sunday to secure his sixth outright win of the season.

Without Scheffler, golf bettors are split amongst three prospects in the outright winner betting market at Detroit Golf Club this week. Cam Davis, who won this event in 2021, is receiving 11.38 percent of wagers, followed by Min Woo Lee and Stephan Jaeger each at 10 percent of the current betting handle.

We should see plenty of birdies and a few eagles made this week at Detroit Golf Club, which has ceded winning scorecards of 23-under-par or lower in four of the previous five years. PGA handicapper Matt MacKay is back to provide analysis of the latest betting data, as well as odds for the outright winner betting market, ahead of the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic that tees off on Thursday morning.

Min Woo Lee makes his debut at Detroit Golf Club, along with Will Zalatoris, while Taylor Moore, who has previously finished T5 and sixth, is all the way down a 50-1 odds. Rickie Fowler joins Moore down at +5000 in the outright winner betting market, despite entering this event as the defending champion.

Tom Kim is the favorite at 12-1, which is refreshing compared to the usual 3-1 odds we get on Scheffler. Kim had a golden opportunity to notch his first victory on the PGA Tour this season at TPC River Highlands last week but his approach shot on the first playoff hole against Scheffler found the bunker. He'll look to bounce back at a course where he finished solo seventh in 2022 but missed the cut in 2023.

Other golfers who have performed well in previous outings at Detroit Golf Club include Cameron Young, Davis Thompson, Stephan Jaeger, and Nate Lashley. All four of these players have set an 18-hole record since the PGA Tour added this event in 2019.

CAM DAVIS (11.38%)

2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic winner, Cam Davis, is drawing the most money in the outright winner betting market this week. It's Davis' only career win and he's been playing poor lately, carding finishes of T50, T56, CUT, and T48 in his last four events.

The Aussie does rank 35th in total driving efficiency and ranks 42nd in par 5 birdie or better leaders. However, his inconsistency on approach and off-the-tee leave a lot to be desired. There's a reason oddsmakers have Davis valued at +7000 this week, so I'd recommend fading him despite returning as a former champion.

MIN WOO LEE (10.46%)

Min Woo Lee is set to make his debut at the Detroit Golf Club. The 25-year-old Aussie has only one top-ten finish in 2024, which was a runner-up finish at Cognizant back in March. A recent string of top-25 finishes is encouraging, so Lee does hold some value as the third betting favorite at 18-1 this week.

Ranked eighth strokes gained: off-the-tee, brandishing a powerful, accurate driver, Lee is also 35th in par 4 scoring average this season. He needs to refine his irons to get better on approach, while his putter is also ranked 92nd strokes gained: putting.

His odds are a bit short for only playing consistently well off-the-tee this year. Lee could make a run and contend for the outright win but he's going to need to get hot with his approach shots and putting to return value at +1800.

STEPHAN JAEGER (10.15%)

Stephan Jaeger has turned in two top-ten finishes at the Rocket Mortgage Classic since 2022, going 18-under-par (T9) in 2023 and 20-under-par (5th) in 2022.

The German golfer beat Scheffler at the Houston Open a couple of months ago, giving him a big boost of confidence. Jaeger ranks 27th strokes gained: off-the-tee and 33rd strokes gained: around the green. His irons and putter are also lacking a bit this season, but he's managed to average 4.22 birdies per round, good enough for 22nd on the PGA Tour.

Jaeger is my favorite prospect among these three heavily bet golfers to contend for the outright win at Detroit Golf Club this week. He also happens to be available to wager at 25-1, by far the best value compared to Davis and Lee.
