5 min2024 3M OPEN: GOLF BETTORS ON TONY FINAU AT TPC TWIN CITIES
The 3M Open is the next event scheduled on the 2024 PGA Tour circuit. Tony Finau, the outright winner at TPC Twin Cities in 2021, is the current betting favorite at 10-1 odds, followed by Sam Burns, Akshay Bhatia, Sahith Theegala, and amateur Luke Clanton rounding out the top-five.
TPC Twin Cities is a par 71 that runs over 7,400 yards, closing with a par 5 18th hole that hits roughly 600 yards in length. Comprised of bentgrass fairways and greens, with bluegrass rough, we'll see a more traditional layout compared to golfers who qualified and competed at Royal Troon in Scotland during the British Open this past weekend.
This is one of the most recent events added to the PGA Tour circuit. 2024 marks the sixth year TPC Twin Cities will play host, with Lee Hodges setting a course record in 2023 as the outright winner at 24-under-par.
PGA handicapper Matt MacKay has the latest betting data entering the 3M Open, including an outright betting odds table, giving a glimpse into which golfers are being bet the most in the outright winner market. Plus, he'll analyze a few golfers and whether or not their odds should be invested in leading up to Round 1 at TPC Twin Cities on Thursday morning.

Tony Finau hasn't won a PGA Tour event in 2024 but he's currently the betting favorite at 10-1. However, it makes sense why oddsmakers and golf bettors are biting on him, since Finau has recorded three top-ten finishes since the 3M Open became a PGA Tour event in 2019.
Akshay Bhatia struggled at Royal Troon, missing the cut, but he's won at Valero and blew a chance to win another event at the Rocket Mortgage Classic a few weeks ago. Bhatia's ball-striking and putting on bentgrass surfaces is very good, which is why we're getting the 22-year-old as short as 22-1.
Keith Mitchell has been a consistently good performer at this event, finishing top-five two of the last three years. At 35-1, he's sitting at a decent price, although he's missed the cut in three of his past four outings, with only three top-ten finishes recorded in 2024.
Tom Hoge has a top-20 finish in back-to-back appearances at TPC Twin Cities, while Billy Horschel, who was in contention at the British Open, has also played well at this event. Both golfers sit in the +3300 to +3500 range in the outright winner market.
J.T. Poston has gone T11, T2 in his past two outings at the 3M Open, so he's certainly a golfer to keep an eye on at 35-1. Nick Dunlap, coming off of his second win of the year at the Barracuda Championship on Sunday, is built for courses like TPC Twin Cities which reward shot-making and tend to be birdies fests. Dunlap is available to wager at 45-1.
3M OPEN BETTING DATA
GOLFER | PERCENTAGE OF BETS |
|---|---|
Tony Finau | 9.8% |
Akshay Bhatia | 7.84% |
Jake Knapp | 5.88% |
Sahith Theegala | 5.46% |
Billy Horschel | 4.9% |
TONY FINAU (9.8%)
Tony Finau is receiving nearly 10 percent of the outright winner betting handle early in the week leading up to the 3M Open. He won outright in 2022 and has two more top-five finishes at TPC Twin Cities, showcasing his comfort level with the course.
Finau is ranked third in SG: approach and 15th SG: around the green, so if he can get his putter to be more consistent, his first outright win of the season will be within reach, justifying oddsmakers' decision to value him as the betting favorite at +1000 odds.
AKSHAY BHATIA (7.84%)
One of the best rising stars on the PGA Tour, Akshay Bhatia will make his debut at TPC Twin Cities this week. He's coming off of a missed cut at the British Open and before that, a three-putt on the final hole at Detroit Golf Club kept him from sealing his second outright win on the PGA Tour this season.
Bhatia is ranked 17th SG: approach, 27th SG: putting, and top-40 for SG: off-the-tee. The lefty possesses a well-rounded game and has plenty of confidence, which translates well to a course that rewards shot-making like TPC Twin Cities.
22-1 as the third betting favorite is good value to acquire on Bhatia this week, which is why we're seeing over seven percent of the betting handle placed on the Los Angeles native.
JAKE KNAPP (5.88%)
Jake Knapp won the Mexico Open at Vidanta, getting off to a great start during his first full season on the PGA Tour. Knapp ranks 21st in driving distance and 15th for SG: approach 200 yards or further.
Knapp is another young golfer on the PGA Tour set to make his debut at the 3M Open this week. He's endured a rough stretch of golf since June, missing back-to-back cuts and falling outside of the top-25 until a T24 recorded at the Barracuda Championship on Sunday.
Bettors are backing Knapp with 5.8 percent of the betting handle in the outright winner market, believing in the young power hitter's ability to stick approach shots and figure out his putter on one of the PGA Tour's easier courses. Knapp will look to get back on track with a strong start at the 3M Open, relying on his driver and looking to fine-tune his putter to contend for another win in 2024.
