5 minPGA POWER RANKINGS: TOP 5 GOLFERS FOR 3M OPEN ODDS
The 3M Open is one of the final 2024 PGA Tour events before the FedExCup playoffs tee off next month.
Following Xander Schauffele's second major win at the British Open, this field will consist of golfers seeking to improve their FedExCup ranking inside the top-70 to qualify for the first playoff event. Therefore, most of the big-time names are not competing, especially with the Summer Olympics teeing off next week.
Tony Finau, the 2022 3M Open winner, is the current betting favorite at +1100 odds in the outright winner market. He's followed by Sam Burns, Akshay Bhatia, Sahith Theegala, and Billy Horschel who round out the top-five betting favorites at TPC Twin Cities this week.
PGA handicapper Matt MacKay returns with his top-five power rankings for the 2024 3M Open, plus a brief overview of how the course is set to play this week.

3M OPEN - TPC TWIN CITIES
Located in Blaine, Minnesota outside of Minneapolis, TPC Twin Cities is a par 71 track that consists of bentgrass fairways and greens, running as fast as 13 feet via Stimpmeter.
The four-inch rough is Kentucky bluegrass, while water hazards abound. Designed by Arnold Palmer in 2000, this is the sixth 3M Open event, which has yet to yield a back-to-back winner. Lee Hodges, the defending champion, set a course record at 24-under-par.
Narrow, tree-lined fairways and water hazards are the primary defenses at TPC Twin Cities. The winning scorecard has been 15-under-par or lower each year, meaning there should be a ton of birdies and a few eagles converted this week.

3M OPEN POWER RANKINGS
1. TONY FINAU (+1100)
The chalk pick this week is Tony Finau. However, it's not often we get the outright favorite as long as 11-1. Finau won this event in 2022 at 17-under-par and has recorded three top-ten finishes, including two inside of the top-five.
He's among the best golfers tee-to-green, especially on approach, which is why he occupies the top spot in this week's power rankings.
2. BILLY HORSCHEL (+2500)
Billy Horschel's runner-up finish at Royal Troon was impressive and hard to predict, so this may feel like a bit of recency bias. However, Horschel has improved his ironplay of late, while ranking 13th SG: putting in 2024.
Ranked 12th scrambling and equipped with a powerful, accurate driver, Horschel's debut here yielded a T13 finish. Expect him to carry momentum from the British Open into his play at a much easier, but different, test at TPC Twin Cities this week.
3. CAM DAVIS (+3300)
Cam Davis' win at the Rocket Mortgage Classic was spurned by Akshay Bhatia three-putting on the 18th hole in the final round, giving the Aussie his second career win, both coming at Detroit Golf Club.
Davis' strokes gained metrics are underwhelming but he did record a T10 finish at TPC Twin Cities in 2023 and another T16 finish in 2022. We know he plays good golf at courses where he's fared well in past outings, so 33-1 is a solid price to land on Davis this week.
4. J.T. POSTON (+3500)
J.T. Poston recorded a runner-up finish at the 2023 3M Open, following up a T11 finish here in 2022.
Poston is another golfer who lacks consistency but he's ranked inside the top-50 for SG: around the green and SG: putting. His short game is solid, but he'll need to improve his driver and irons to contend this week. It's a course we've seen Poston dominate in recent years, so at 35-1, he profiles as a top-five golfer.
5. JAKE KNAPP (+8000)
Jake Knapp is set to make his debut at TPC Twin Cities and bettors are backing the young gun to do some damage with his off-the-tee prowess this week.
Knapp won at the Mexico Open earlier this season and has looked a bit shaky since that victory. His approaches from outside of 200 yards rank 15th in strokes gained metrics, while he finally managed to record a top-25 finish at the Barracuda Championship last week.
Knapp has four top-ten finishes during his first year on the PGA Tour, including an outright win and two other top-five finishes, so he should be a quick study at a course that projects as a birdie-fest this week.
