5 Minute ReadPGA Power Rankings: Top 5 Golfers For 2025 John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run
After an electrifying five-hole playoff at the 2025 Rocket Classic, the PGA Tour heads west to TPC Deere Run for the upcoming John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois. It's another full field of 156 golfers, with the favorite, Ben Griffin, available at +1600 odds.
Other notable golfers in attendance include Jason Day, Sungjae Im, Rickie Fowler, Max Homa, and 2025 Rocket Classic winner, Aldrich Potgieter. Last year's John Deere Classic winn er, Davis Thompson, returns to defend his title at +3500 odds.
TPC Deere Run is a par 71 that spans 7,289 yards. It features bentgrass fairways and greens, with rough that is a mixture of Kentucky Bluegrass and fescue. Frequent elevation changes happen at this course, with doglegged fairways and small square footage greens that demand precision on approach. Minimal water hazards and sprawling sand bunkers flank fairways and protect greens.

PGA Power Rankings: John Deere Classic
1. Ben Griffin (+1600) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best John Deere Classic odds
Typically when the betting favorite at a PGA Tour event has odds at +1600 or longer, it doesn't break in their favor. I'll make an exception for Ben Griffin.
Griffin posted a T5 finish during his debut at the 2024 John Deere Classic. He scorched the course in Round 4 by shooting 9-under-par. 2025 has seen Griffin break out, recording two wins, along with eight top 10 finishes in 22 events.
He's ranked 13th total strokes gained. 32nd SG: Approach, 35th SG: Putting, 19th at finding greens in regulation and 15th in scoring average. Griffin also sits top 40 for sand save percentage and 35th on par 4s.
There are few golfers in this field better tee-to-green. Griffin's blend of power off-the-tee and precise short game elevates him to the top of my John Deere Classic power rankings.
2. Jake Knapp (+3500) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best John Deere Classic odds
Jake Knapp is one of several golfers with enough talent to create value at 35-1 odds in the outright winner betting market. He had opportunities to grab a share of the lead on Sunday at the Rocket Classic but was unable to convert them.
Knapp is a bomber off-the-tee, ranked 25th in driving distance. He's 31st in putting average, 19th SG: Putting and 30th on approach shots from 200+ yards. Knapp also sits 38th scrambling, 18th in scoring average, 35th on par 4s and eighth in birdie average.
We just watched Knapp set a course record at Detroit Golf Club in Round 2. When he gets hot, Knapp typically launches himself into contention.
Last year at TPC Deere Run, Knapp carded a T52 finish during his debut. I expect a better performance this time around, especially coming off of his best finish (T4) of the year in Detroit on Sunday.
3. Sungjae Im (+3500) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best John Deere Classic odds
It's been tough to get a consistent read on Sungjae Im in 2025. He's improved his short game quite a bit, ranked eighth in putting average and third in putts per round. Im also sits 23rd SG: Off-the-Tee, including 12th for driving accuracy.
The 27-year-old South Korean native has three top 10 finishes this season. He's only logged one top 20 finish in his last five events. However, he just took a week off during the Rocket Classic. The last time Im had time off, he carded a T16 finish at the Memorial Tournament.
An accurate driver and hot putter is always a good recipe for success. If Im's irons can improve, he'll start pouring in birdies with consistency. Coming off of his best finish in three outings at TPC Deere Run with a T12 in 2024.
4. Davis Thompson (+3500) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best John Deere Classic odds
Davis Thompson's lone PGA Tour win came at TPC Deere Run last year. The 26-year-old Georgia native won convincingly, beating the rest of the field by four strokes at 28-under-par.
In 2025, Thompson has shown flashes of greatness. The inability to do it across four rounds is keeping him from climbing into contention on Sundays.
Ranks 25th SG: Off-the-Tee, including 39th driving accuracy, 40th proximity and 42nd at finding greens in regulation. Thompson's putting has been bad, despite averaging over four birdies per round.
If Thompson's tee-to-green accuracy remains steady, he should feel comfortable shooting low scores during his title defense. He just carded a 66 in Round 1 and Round 3 at the Rocket Classic. Thompson's game isn't in bad form ahead of his return to the John Deere Classic.
5. Michael Thorbjornsen (+3500) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best John Deere Classic odds
Michael Thorbjornsen is a rising young talent on the PGA Tour, just wrapping up his third top 10 finish in 2025 during the Rocket Classic. The 23-year-old grabbed the outright lead on Sunday but couldn't hold on, eventually settling for a T4 finish.
Ranks 16th SG: Off-the-Tee, including fifth for driving distance and sixth at finding greens in regulation. Thorbjornsen is also eighth at hitting approach shots from 200+ yards, showcasing his accuracy from distance.
30th scrambling from the rough, 21st scoring average and sixth in birdie average. It's what led Thorbjornsen to a runner-up finish at 24-under-par during the 2024 John Deere Classic. He went 4-under-par (67) or lower in all four rounds at TPC Deere Run.
Thorbjornsen is trending upward, recording all three top 10 finishes since April 20th at the Corales Puntacana Championship. In a field that isn't loaded with star power, it's reasonable to expect him to be near the top of the leaderboard Sunday afternoon.
