The Stanley Cup market has tightened around a small group of teams, and the top of the board reflects both talent and current series control. Colorado (+230) and Carolina (+300) have separated from the rest after Colorado swept its first-round series and Carolina already punched through to the second round, while Tampa Bay (+800) remains the next-biggest threat despite still being stuck in a live series.
Behind them, the odds start to reflect just how much damage a difficult first round can do. Vegas (+1000) is still respected but no longer cruising, Buffalo (+1200) and Minnesota (+1300) are being rewarded for putting favored opponents under pressure, and clubs like Dallas (+2500) and Edmonton (+3000) have seen their numbers drift because their current series situations are much shakier.

Colorado has become the betting favorite because it has looked the most complete team in the field so far. The Avalanche swept Los Angeles in four games, capped by a 5-1 closeout win, and got exactly the kind of star production you want from a true Cup front-runner with Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, and a deep supporting cast all showing up. MacKinnon’s first two goals of the postseason came in the clincher, and Colorado now gets rest while waiting on the winner of the Wild-Stars series.

Carolina has the second-shortest number because it already handled business with zero drama. The Hurricanes swept Ottawa in four games and have now reached the second round for the sixth straight year, which says a lot about both their structure and their playoff reliability. Sebastian Aho, Seth Jarvis, Frederik Andersen, and a deep two-way lineup continue to make this team one of the safest bets in the bracket, especially now that it is already through while several other contenders are still taking punches.

Tampa Bay remains the clearest next-tier threat because the ceiling is still obvious even if the path is not clean yet. The Lightning fought back from a 2-0 deficit in Game 4 to beat Montreal 3-2 and even the series at 2-2, with Brandon Hagel scoring twice and Jake Guentzel and Nikita Kucherov helping drive the offense. If Tampa gets through this series, the odds may shorten again, because a team led by Kucherov, Guentzel, and Andrei Vasilevskiy still has championship-level credibility.

Vegas is still very live, but the market is clearly showing more caution than it did when the playoffs began. The Golden Knights are tied 2-2 with Utah after escaping with a 5-4 overtime win in Game 4, which prevented the series from tilting heavily toward the Mammoth. Vegas still has the kind of veteran core built for this time of year with Jack Eichel, Shea Theodore, and Mitch Marner in prominent roles, but the current number reflects a team that has not looked quite as steady as Colorado or Carolina.

Buffalo has earned a lot of respect from the market because it is sitting in a strong position against Boston, even after missing its first closeout chance. The Sabres still lead the series 3-2 despite losing Game 5 in overtime, and they previously smashed the Bruins 6-1 in Game 4 to seize control. Rasmus Dahlin, Alex Tuch, and a balanced attack have given Buffalo real momentum, and if it closes the series, this number could tighten fast because the résumé would suddenly look much more serious.

Minnesota looks like one of the better values left because the Wild are now up 3-2 on Dallas after winning Game 5 behind Kirill Kaprizov’s goal and two assists. Matt Boldy has also been a major force in the series, and the Wild have shown they can win in different ways, from a blowout in Game 1 to a late grind in Game 5. If they finish off Dallas and draw Colorado, they will still be underdogs, but their current number reflects a team that has already proven it belongs in this conversation.

Dallas still has enough talent to matter, but the odds show just how much damage this first round has done. The Stars now trail Minnesota 3-2 after dropping Game 5 at home, even though Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen each contributed a goal and an assist in the loss. A healthy, rolling Dallas team would usually sit much higher than this, but right now the market is pricing in both the danger of an immediate exit and the harder road that would follow even if the Stars survive.

Edmonton is hanging on, but the longshot number makes sense. The Oilers kept their season alive with a 4-1 win in Game 5, led by Leon Draisaitl’s two goals, and got help from Connor McDavid, Evan Bouchard, and Zach Hyman to push the series back to Anaheim. Still, they trail the Ducks 3-2, and McDavid has also been dealing with an ankle issue, which adds another layer of uncertainty. If Edmonton somehow comes all the way back, this price will look huge, but for now the market is treating it like a talented team with too much damage already done.
