Oscars Odds: Vanessa Kirby Predicted To Cause Huge Upset In Oscars Betting Market

Heading into the Oscars there are two clear favorites to win Best Actress, Andra Day and Carey Mulligan. The pair have either seen the best odds or had been the favorite of bettors to this point. Mulligan is currently given a 60% chance to win the award, while Day is given a 20% chance. Things are beginning to shift towards the underdogs the closer we get to the Oscars.
Oddsmakers see Vanessa Kirby as a huge longshot. The Pieces of a Woman actress is currently listed with +1600 odds, by far the worst on the market. Those odds equate to just a 5.9% chance of going home with the Academy Award.
However, Bettors are telling a different story. The market has seen a surge in bets on Kirby in the last week with 33.3% of bets on the award being placed on her. That makes her the bettor’s favorite by a wide margin.
Behind Kirby is Viola Davis for her role as Ma in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. She’s received 27.8% of the bets over the last week, no other actress has topped 20%. Davis is another longshot, as she is currently given +1000 odds, or an implied 9.1% chance of victory.
The field is wide open. Don’t discount any of the 5 women up for Best Actress because they could all take home the Academy Award.
