CJ Cup Odds: Dustin Johnson Tests Positive for COVID-19, Withdraws
Dustin Johnson Tests Positive for COVID-19
On Tuesday, the PGA Tour announced that Dustin Johnson, the world’s No. 1 ranked golfer, had tested positive for COVID-19.
The obvious immediate concern is that of Johnson’s health and ability to recover. However, it will also cause him to miss this weekend’s CJ Cup.
The CJ Cup usually takes place at Nine Bridges Golf Club, in South Korea, but has been moved to the states due to the COVID-19 outbreak. This year, it’ll be played at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The event features the top-60 golfers from last season’s FedEx Cup. Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose were among those golfers given exemptions for the event and will be making an appearance.
CJ Cup Betting Breakdown
Prior to Tuesday’s positive test, Johnson was the favorite for this weekend’s tournament at +1000. This was meant to be Johnson’s second event of the season following his 2021 debut at the US Open, where he finished T6 at +5.
Not only was Johnson the favorite for the CJ Cup, he was also the second most backed golfer in the field. As of Tuesday, 6.48% of all bets were on DJ to win.
Now, with DJ off the board, Jon Rahm has taken over as the favorite. He too is boasting +1000 odds to win. Those odds imply a 9.1% chance of victory for Rahm.
