2021 Farmers insurance Open Odds: Five Most Backed Golfers

This week’s Farmers Insurance Open is a bit different than most tournaments you’ll see on the PGA Tour. The usual 156-golfer field is split into two fields of 78 for the first two rounds of the tournament, on Thursday and Friday. Each golfer then plays one round on the North Course at Torey Pines and one round on the South Course before cuts are made after Friday’s Round 2. Then, Saturday and Sunday’s rounds are both played on the South Course.

Because of this, betting can be a bit tricky. Every golfer has to play the same holes, but which golfers will play better on the different courses? Let’s take a look at the public betting data and see which golfers the bettors are getting behind prior to Thursday’s opening round.

1. Gary Woodland @ +8000 – 9.58% of Wagers (Click to bet)

The most backed player for this weekend’s PGA Tour event is none other than Gary Woodland, with just under 10% of the bets coming in on him.

Woodland has had a rough start to the 2021 season, missing three cuts and withdrawing from an event in six tries, but last week was his best showing of the season. Woodland finished T16 at the American Express, and will be looking to build off that 12-under par performance.

In his ten appearances at the Farmers, Woodland has finished top-20 five times, including four straight from 2016 to 2019.

2. Adam Scott @ +5000 – 7.39% of Wagers (Click to bet)

Adam Scott has played one event at Torey Pines, the 2019 Farmers Insurance Open. Usually, that lack of familiarity with a course would be a negative, but that one showing produced a second-place finish, and the betting public is rushing to the window to back Scott again.

Scott has played five events in the 2021 season and is yet to crack the top-20 in any of them. In his last event, the Sony Hawaii Open, he finished T41 after a closing-round 66. This week, bettors are banking on him making a run at the top spot at Torey Pines in only his second tournament on the course.

3. Harris English @ +2500 – 5.95% of Wagers (Click to bet)

Harris English has been one of the hottest golfers on the planet during the 2021 season, and bettors are riding that streak into this weekend’s Farmers Open. In eight events played, English has five top-10 finishes and a win, coming at the Sentry Tournament of Champions earlier this month. He also won the QBE Shootout with Matt Kuchar, which is not an official event.

English is 3rd in the early FedEx Cup Standings and the 16th ranked golfer in the world. He came in second in the Farmers in 2015, and finished eighth in 2018.

4. Hideki Mastuyama @ +3000 – 4.24% of Wagers (Click to bet)

2021 has brought five top-25 finishes for Hideki Matsuyama, and bettors have decided that he’s too good to pass up here at +3000. In seven events at Torey Pines, Matsuyama has three top-25 finishes, including a third-place showing in 2019.

After English, Matsuyama has the shortest odds on this list, which is surprising since he’s 30/1. He and Adam Scott are probably the most well-known names, but still, he doesn’t have any type of sustained winning recently or at Torey Pines in the past.

5. Cameron Davis @ +7000 – 3.29% of Wagers (Click to bet)

Speaking of playing well in the 2021 season, Cameron Davis has done just that to this point. The 25-year old Australian is 16th on Tour in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee and he continues to smash the ball with his driver.

Davis has played in seven events this season. He’s made the cut in six, finished top-25 in two and even managed to close out last week’s American Express in third place. Because of his success off the tee and in last week’s event, Davis has gone from a relative unknown to one of the most popular picks at this week’s Farmers.
