After a record-breaking score in November, the golf course hit back on day one at the 2021 Masters. Only twelve players shot under par at Augusta on Thursday and many of the big names in the sport struggled to deal with the course conditions.
One player that didn't was Justin Rose, who shot one of the rounds of the year with an opening seven-under-par 65. The Englishman already has a four shot lead and is the new betting favorite to win the Masters.Â
Jordan Spieth was one of the few pre-tournament betting favorites to play well on day one and he bounced back from a triple bogey on hole nine to record a solid first round -1.Â
Big names such as Bryson DeChambeau, Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy all struggled on day one and look to be out of the running already.Â

2021 Masters Current Odds
Unsurprisingly, the betting market has turned on its head since the play started yesterday and Justin Rose is the new betting favorite. The best odds available on Rose are +400.Â
Jordan Spieth is next in the market at +800 which is shorter than his pre-tournament line of +1000. Books are predicting he's the most likely player to cut down Rose's lead on day two.Â
Patrick Reed is another big mover, having been available at odds of +3300 before Thursday, he's come right in to odds of +1200 after impressing on day one.Â
