Instead of just betting on the winner this year, with Joey Chestnut favored around -2000 (95%) chance, you can take advantage of a new method with Kalshi.
The newcomers to the prediction market game are offering a “Total Hot Dogs Consumed” market, with options to invest on bands of each total dogs. They have choices for “65 of More Dogs”, “70 or More”, etc. all the way from 50 to 85.

Latest Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Odds From Kalshi
This is the current status on Kalshi as of Friday morning, a few hours before the event. These odds are correct at the time of writing.
It currently costs 71¢ to buy 70 or More Hot Dogs eaten, which would amount to a -245 odds on the moneyline to go over.
It also costs roughly 33¢ to buy 75 or More Hot Dogs, which would change the market to a +205 price in a standard sportsbook odds environment.
With the total dogs eaten projected at around 72.9, it makes sense to have this odds window here. You can’t bet on the exact over/under of 72.5, but are able to choose from these various bands in between.
If you really wanted to get crazy, there is an 80 or More option, but only has a 12% chance of happening, so +750 odds. No one has ever eaten more than Joey Chestnut’s 76, so it would be a tough mark to hit.
How Many Total Hot Dogs Will Be Consumed?
Based on the latest trades on Kalshi, there is a 71% chance of 70 or More Hot Dogs being consumed, but only a 32% chance of more than 75 Hot Dogs eaten.
The current projection has it around 72.9, with the market fluctuating like a stock chart over the past few weeks.
It has gone as high as 74 hot dogs, and as low as 72.2. Again, the record was Chestnut with 76 a few years ago, so that is the general benchmark area, as it will be tough to top that level he hit in his prime.
How Does Kalshi Work and How Much Can I Win on the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest?
Instead of betting on typical sportsbook odds, you are instead buying contracts as you look to correctly predict the outcome of an event.
Let's take the Total Hot Dog Market Buy Price as an example of what you can win with Kalshi:
- A $100 investment on 70 or More Hot Dogs eaten at the current price of 71¢. This is based on you buying 141 contracts at 71¢. If Joey Chestnut or someone else does eat more than that and you bought 141 at this price, you would land a total profit of $41.
Trading Positions on the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest
With Kalshi, you are able to trade different positions. This is not a simple over/under market like you would see on DraftKings. For the hot dog contest, there are choices of “65 or More, and 70 or More”, etc. at various intervals.
They are all assigned a different price, and you can wager on the amount of total dogs you think will be consumed. But the payouts will be lesser based on the likelihood of them happening. 65 or More dogs is a much smaller payout as the odds translate to -670 at an 87% chance of happening.
That’s because Joey Chestnut crushed past that total back in 2021 at 76 total dogs as his personal record. Can he still hit his prime after a year off? 75 or More dogs is set at 32% on Kalshi, aka +215 odds.
Kalshi Fees
At the sportsbook, you are paying a vig, which is factored into any lines the sportsbook has created on any given market. With Kalshi, there is no vig, but there are still fees to consider.
There is a trading fee applied to your transactions, for example:
If the price for one contract was $0.01, the associated fee for one contract would be $0.01. If you were to buy 100 contracts at this price for $1.00, your trading fee would be $0.07.
The most you will ever pay on a $100 trade, no matter the price, is $1.74, so there is plenty of value in making your trades on Kalshi's platform.
